CO/LP alarm goes off
I installed an high quality CO detector as per instructions in the bathroom of our 44B, right next to the bedroom. This alarm has never gone off.
Some time ago, our CO/LP alarm that was factory installed near the dining table went off. There was a car idling near by, our door was open, so I thought that was the cause. But last night it went off again. I opened windows etc., aired out the coach, and a half hour later it went off again. So I took it off the wall and laid it face down on the carpet, and even with the sensor plugged it went off. The label says to replace after 5 years, we have a 2015 coach, so.... I took it off line and ordered a new one.
Once I had it off line I noticed a stamped date on the device. The date said October 2, 2016. Our coach build date was April 2015 so it would appear we had an old unit installed in the coach.
I will install the new one as soon as it gets here and if it goes off again I’ll follow up here. But it may be that we all have equipment that is marginal as far as manufacture warranty date is concerned.

They also go bad earlier than 5 years if exposed to aerosols like hair spray or other airborne particles that contaminate the sensor. The one in my 2018 had to be replaced after less than 2 years and I heard early replacement is common.

We have a 15 as well. About 2 months ago ours went off at 1 AM, reset it and it went off. Pulled it out the next day and replaced it with a new one it had a manufacture date of 2015.

In addition, the quality of the factory units were not the best. I replaced two while still under warranty. Lots of post during the Classic years with the same problems.

John, I'm a little confused here, if the dates you posted above are correct, then the CO monitor was built 18 months AFTER the coach was built?!? Has it already been replaced at least once?

I've pulled the fuse and replaced it twice ... got tired of it going off, so fuse is pulled and a CO detector from Lowes lives there now. Been there, done that ... again a Classic Entegra.

One thing that can help to prevent false warnings and prolong the useful life, is to vacuum the sensor.
Also, double check your house battery voltage. This unit will alarm if the batteries aren’t providing a sufficient amount of voltage.

We spend a fair amount of time in the San Joaquin Valley near dairy farms (read farting cows). Sometimes when the weather is very still or there is an inversion layer the CO/LP alarm goes off multiple times. No amount of resets or airing out helps. I put an on/off switch in line on my detector. If it goes off more than once I turn it off for the night, then back on the next day. I think the risk of no CO/LP detector for one night is worth a good nights sleep, especially on an all electric coach. [emoji1]

Good idea Alec. I left mine unplugged for the duration of a trip until I got home. Same reason, wasn't too worried in an all electric coach in the middle of summer.

I’m not sure if the mfg stamps a “to replace date” instead of a manufactured date on the device or the prior owner replaced the unit. Guess I’ll find out when the new one arrives.
I checked the house voltage as well as at the unit and both are 13.4VDC so that wasn’t it.

I have replaced the alarm in my coach (2014 Entegra Anthem RBQ) two times in the past 6 years. I don't think that they will last 5 years: more like 3 years. It's probably time for another one pretty soon. Good thing that it's easy to change.

Bought a new one and next trip went off on fault, after third unit I updated my coach batteries. Went off on fault again. I have a 110 outlet near mine so put a 12 volt source and wired it to a three post switch. Wired 12 volt to one side and 110 x 12 volt to other with the middle being off. While plugged in I use 110 12 volt charge line and switch to battery 12 volt while driving. Just need to pay attention to which power source you are on. Spoke to suppliers and they had no better solution. Hope this helps

What is the age and condition of your house batteries? If you have a bad cell or two, they will outgas and that will set off a CO/LP detector. This happened to me a few years ago, I had two bad cells in one of the batteries. Replaced both batteries and never had another issue.
