If you go to Cummins, they have a new policy that they must disconnect the chassis batteries. Not all of them know that there is a procedure to remove the chassis batteries to not blow up the Spartan Control Module (SCM). Make sure you tell them to contact Spartan Service to get the procedure. ****BE WARNED****

What is the procedure for those of us who might change our own chassis batteries?

This is what Spartan says:
After cleaning chassis batteries I hooked up the cables and the horn started honking and wouldn't stop. After a lot of work and research Spartan said the horn is controlled by the SCM (Spartan Control Module). Spartan says you must follow this procedure to disconnect the batteries or you could damage the SCM.
Battery compartment
1, Turn off both disconnects (open)
2, Remove fuse panel cover and remove F10 (Ign. SW. 15amp fuse)
3, Remove negative battery cable, remove positive
Later...

It can also be fuse F11 depending upon serial number break. Fo example my 2019 K2 chassis. Was fuse f11. Call to verify!

So did you let the smoke out of your SCM? If so, what was the cost to replace?

That right there and $1,290 for an oil change is a good reason to continue on with Speedco even with their price increase. I have never had a problem with Speedco checking anything I asked them to.

I had them replace it. It is easy to diagnose, when it goes the horn sounds continuously. The module is a thousand dollars and the labor was 465. I paid ZERO since they disconnected the batteries without asking. No I made a large red caution tag for the batteries
