Colman Mach heat pumps - entegra cornerstone 2018

Hi everyone

On my zone one or heat pump one the fan seems to kick on properly but the compressor never kicks on completely. When I set heat or cold. I see the digital breaker panel turn on for a second (for the compressor) and I can hear the compressor kick on for half a second but it shuts off right away. The fan keeps running continuously though on high.

Could anyone provide troubleshooting or ideas as to what is happening and what I can do to fix it thank you

Start capacitor most likely problem. Pull air conditioner cover and it’s in the small metal box.

I though the same thing with my 21. Turned out needed a new HP

Chuck, what temp demand are you asking for?

I am surmising the exterior temp is above 40°

Reason for asking is this; if the coach inside temp is 68°, and I ask for the heat pump to come on at say, 70°, the compressor doesn’t necessarily fire, only the fan.
I think there has to be a greater delta to get the compressor to fire.
At least, that is what happens with ours.
You might want to play with various deltas before you look at repair/replace.

You can try unplug the freeze sensor and see if the unit keeps running. If it’s does, then you just need to swap that out. If not, would need to get into the shop for a proper diagnosis. Contact your selling dealer or any NIRVC service center.

Sounds like your compressor is trying to start but not. It could be a bad capacitor or a locked compressor. I’ve just had the same problem. Checked capacitor microfarad rate first, found it good. Checked amp draw on compressor during start attempt found it drawing locked rotor amps. I was going to order a new compressor until I noticed oil on the vapor line comping out of the evap coil. Obviously a refrigerant leak. The 15,000 btu unit only has 22 oz of R410a. With such a small amount of refrigerant any leak will be the end of the compressor. Time for a new unit.

That's [retty much what I found also. Similar symptoms, diagnosis and outcome. In my case it took 16 weeks during covid to get a replacement

Terry or Bruce, I have never had to replace a HVAC.
What is a ballpark cost for getting a unit replaced?
The HVAC unit? Labor?

My guess is over 2k, but mine was replaced under warranty. Call service, they will quote you a price. Or DIY if you have the expertise

Mine just came in yesterday. RV Products Shop in Wichita was $1964 with shipping. Originally their site said 6-8 weeks but mine came in 10 days. I’ll replace it myself so I’m not sure what labor would be to have it done.

It’s not my first one. Our 2012 had the rear unit go out. The solenoid came off the reversing valve and rubbed a hole in the valve body. I couldn’t source the reversing valve (Chinese) so it was a replacement.

They are not hard to replace IF you have a forklift and scissor lift

I've had to replace two A/C's. North of $2K each. Glad I have the extended warranty
