Consignment with Camping World

I was contacted by a nearby Camping World to sell my coach via consignment. Has anyone here had experience with selling consignment? With Camping World? Pros/Cons?

My 1st concern is leaving my coach at location, unsupervised. Anyone else?

Thanks,

Curtis

Camping World has probably millions of complaints about their entire operation from parts sales, to service, to storage or consignment, to purchases. One of their well known issues is hiring less than competent workers with apparently little supervision as I've read of numerous issues with workers using the RVs on their lots to live in, damaging them, causing more damage when trying to fix something, crashing into them with heavy equipment and then CW denying it or short changing the owners. Some stories are of consignment RVs just being stolen off of supposedly guarded lots. Another tactic they use is to steal parts off of any RV on their lot to try to fix another RV for a complaining customer. Then telling the owner it was missing when it came in. All sorts of tactics such as that.

You'll hear from others here, and about the only good you'll hear is that some purchasers of new RVs were treated well. For the most part, many face aggressive sales tactics, poor service, and high prices.

You would be much better off going to a local Mom & Pop RV dealer. You can Google "complaints about Camping World in <your town>" or look at your area for peer reviews at RVServiceReviews.com for mostly unbiased reviews. Check complaints for any consignment dealer you may choose.

If you are in Alabama I would use Cleveland RV Sales in Cleveland, Ga. to consignment for your sale, I brought a consignment RV from them this past spring & they are very honest & helpful, before/during & after the sale.

Remember_ you must buy separate insurance for consignment, your regular ins. will not be in-force.
We bought our MH on consignment from CW. They did nothing to protect the MH, all batteries were flat-dead and had to be replaced, for which they made seller pay. Before we picked up the MH and signed papers, their lot personnel had done nothing to clean it up; they did however remove everything not nailed-down.

If you are located in Alabama, I would take it to either Southland RV or National Indoor RV Center, both are first class operations, and both just east of the Atlanta metroplex.

Consignment with Camping World

I can’t speak for consignment with Camping World. I can say we recently put our 2020 Entegra Anthem on consignment with Ryan at NIRVC in Surprise AZ. Ryan knows his stuff. I drove the 550 miles plus from our home to Surprise. Met with Ryan and that was it. Ryan contacted us with any offers and kept us informed as to how our coach was priced compared to other Anthem's that were for sale out there. I would have to look but I think it was right about 50 days and our coach was sold. He took care of the paying off the bank and getting us a refund on our extended service contract. They are in business to make money so you pay for that service but for us, it was well worth it. We sold our last coach ourselves and it ended up being this ongoing relationship with the coach and the buyer of the coach. “You didn’t tell me about that” or “that is not what you said”. NIRVC goes through the coach and checked things that were or could be a problem. They found things I was not aware of that needed attention. This kind of speaks to another thread about third party inspectors. I don’t think you would, as a buyer need one, at least not at the Surprise NIRV.

Now, if our new coach would just get here!

Pete

In many years of RVing, Camping World is one of the last places I would trust. That is from personal experience, not repeating what is on the internet a thousand times over. If you want profession service, the nearest NIRVC. They have drivers that will pick your coach up. Your coach will be detailed and put in the best possible showing condition.

Thank you mymyst, brobox, and pnewman10 for the shout out! We would love to help you consign your coach at NIRVC. We have a Consignment Specialist at each of our locations to walk you through the process. We try to make it as easy as possible. You will be presented any offers to accept, counter, or decline. We treat your coach like our inventory. It will be washed, detailed, photographed, marketed, and plugged in to 50amp power. We can take your buyer’s coach in on trade and we offer financing and extended service plans. Please let me know if I can help connect you with one of our Specialist.

I agree with all of the above post. You were getting some valuable advice here.
If you don’t want to get taken to the cleaners, call Angie at national indoor RV and she will set this up of what to do next. Only my opinion.

Use a lot of caution. This outfit is known for being deceptive.

The reality is that the marketplace for all RV’s is really soft. Particularly for older models. We just sold our coach to a very reputable dealer. I was surprised and disappointed by the actual market value that was suggested
The dealer took the coach into the shop and came back with an estimated cost of +-$20,000 to make the coach salable. I was also fearful that more “needed” repairs would be discovered once it went into the shop. I weighed doing the recommended repairs, waiting for a buyer, and paying a sales commission against a low cash offer. I took the cash offer.
The payout was seamless and professional No regrets, just a little disappointed.

Thanks everyone for all the responses and advice. We love the RV family, Traveling in an RV, and seeing this great country. The support and knowledge shared on this forum is another reason we love the RV lifestyle.

We have had bad experiences with several dealers and service centers and therefore are very cautious.

I'll reach out to NIRVC and others as suggested.

Thanks again,

Curtis
