Cornerstone Tail Lights

I understand the tail lights on the new cornerstones all flash with the turn signals. Has anyone made a Classic talk the same way? If so, I would like to know the procedure.

I started and saw that it was going to be a complete rear light wiring project. You cannot feed the top turn signal to the lower light that they all don't flash, on both sides.

Instead, I made the red side marker light to both flash and marker then updated to a 10 LED light. That worked great on this summer's trip. Not once did I have a problem with people not seeing I was changing lanes.

I was hoping that maybe it was a jumper somewhere else in the main system.

Please tell me how each function currently. I understand one on each side is a turn sign. So are the other brake lights only? Is the light that is turn signal a brake light also? You can check this by have someone apply the brakes and note Do you have all six on or only 4 lite?
If you have all six lite I think there is easy work around.

That should have read, "they all flash" on both sides.

I changed our 2013 antique to flash all three tail lights instead of just the top one and it was actually one of the easiest changes I have made.

I removed all the tail lights to check and see what was different about the top ones and the lower ones and found that they are all the same. Verified this with EC tech service and they confirmed all the tail lights are the same....top, middle, bottom, left and right. All are same part number.

The top ones on the classics are just powered by a separate circuit that flashes the brake lights for the turn signal like a common trailer system. The two lower light circuits just light the brake lights and does not flash them.

Extend that top circuit to each of the other two lower lights and connect the lights to that and eliminate the existing circuits that power the middle and lower light.

I tapped into each wire leading to the top light and added a one foot long jumper. There are three wires, white, red and black. Poke the new foot long harness tapped from the top light to the middle and connect the light to this instead of the existing circuit. Another one foot long jumper to the lower light and do the same thing.

i just cut the pigtails leading to the middle and lower lights and sealed the existing harness ends and left them dangling, unused. Then just attach the new feed wires from the top light to the middle and lower lights and you are done.

The three way sealed crimp connectors mentioned in an earlier post make this a snap.

Same procedure for both sides.

You'll notice the wiring bundle feeding the top tail light will be marked with a green tape strip on the right and a yellow tape strip on the top left. The middle and bottom feeds are not marked this way.

Voila, now my 2013 antique "road talks" like a 2016.

That make sense and the step I missed. No wonder I had feed back to all of the lights. Thanks Al.

Jestal just explained what you need to do. As a note if any vehicle has a combination brake / turn signal lamp (s) the power is feed thru the turn signal switch.
Apparently the classics have a circuit for brake lights only and a combination brake/turn signal circuit.

So as jestal said you need to remove the wire from the lamps that are brake only and jumper a wire from the combination circuit to the other two lamps on each side.

Thanks jestal.
Richard

Yea, Richard, I probably could have just extended the red wire from the top lamp assembly to the other two ( and eliminated the original red source from the two bottom lamps). I elected to ere on the side of caution and not risk mixing circuit sources for the ground least I cause some sort of ground plane imbalance or something so i just extended all three wires from the top lamp to both of the bottom ones. Seems to work fine so far and with a few miles of driving but the upcoming mileage will really proof it.

Having all the extra turn signals is a real help in maneuvering in traffic I discovered.

Not to belabor it but the parallax on the tail lights makes them less visible in the day once you are close to the rear of the coach and in the adjacent lane. I added the 10 LED turn signal LED Chuck mentioned to the rear sides also to aid in visibility once a vehicle is up close or even with the coach. It all seems to work great as a package.

Al, When I did just the jump wire off the top turn signal and tapped it into the second tail light....all six tail lights flashed, it back feed through everything. You did the step I miss. I was tired after wiring 5 new LED flashing lights on both sides and didn't go back to the rear light. I will now thanks to your post.

Thanks for the great information. I just replaced a few of my tail lights. I bought the delphi waterproof 3 prong plugs on ebay. It was a piece of cake, I also replaced the loom and used silicone on the wires where they went into the lights. I will rig up a new connection based upon your suggestion. Thanks again, you have gotta love this forum.
