Cracked Tile 2020 Entegra Aspire 44R
Hello all, How are other Entegra Class A owner's tile floors holding up? I now have 8 cracked tile. More than the allotted extra tiles shipped with each rig. We drive only on paved surfaces and always run the correct air pressure in our tires. 6 of the 8 tiles are hairline cracks but two tiles are now developing small chips and flacking pieces. No idea why Entegra would choose to use 4ft long porcelain tiles in a moving 45 foot vehicle when there are composite near bullet proof engineered floor surfaces out there and have been for years. My question is: has anyone attempted to remove and replace? Anyone do an overlay? Bish RV told me they have done some overlays but I'm questioning the slide movement on a surface that is now 1/4" taller. Obviously I could remove the entire tile floor and start over but that that is a huge job and I'm not quite sure how to replace the tile under the kitchen cabinets that move in the 44r. Same with the tiles under the side bunk area. Those tiles never show but there would need to be some tiles under there like the factory intended for the slide to roll out and in on. Please let me know what you all are experiencing and what you have done about it..... if anything. Cheers!!!

Paul, it might be worth a trip to Entegra to have that problem corrected. Maybe they know something about your production run that needs to be corrected.

Who would of thought that ceramic tile would crack in a flexing vehicle that goes down the highway at 65 mph .

Yeah, stopped at the factory last year and was offered no help but the number of the matching grout color. I was also given 3 large white tiles that have also cracked on a seam line against the rear wall of the shower. That’s the extent of the help the factory offered. Another owner responded that if the slides are opened or closed with no air in the suspension the floor tiles are known to crack. If that’s truly the case seems like a simple interlock switch should be put in place to prevent slide operation unless the air bags are inflated. I’ve probably over the two years of ownership and 200+ slide operations by mistake opened or closed the slides when the air bags have been without air maybe 3 times. I seriously doubt those three slide closure events caused the breaking of 8 tiles. Flawed design and improper selection of materials and installation techniques is my professional opinion. I built homes for a living and I would not tile a floor on a home built on a concrete foundation the way Entegra installs the tile in their class A rv’s.

Cracked floor tile 2020 Entegra Aspire
Paul,
That is a bummer about your floor tile. I am a home builder also. We have been on three of the factory tours plus’s have spent some time out there while they were (are) building our 2025 Anthem. I would agree that I don’t think we would install tile on a concrete slab floor the way they install tile but, we don’t build Motorhomes. The way they install the tile has seemed consistent each time we have been out there. We have been on two other factory tours at different competitors of Entegra, and I don’t think they do anything better.
We had a 2020 Anthem and had a cracked tile and some loose sounding tile in our master bathroom. We were at a Spartan University class at NIRVC in Surprise and we brought it up to them. PJ (from Entegra) was actually there helping teach the class and he came out and looked at it. He got down on the floor, looked at everything as he tapped on the tiles, and then said to bring it back to Indiana. When he first said that, us living on the coast of California, we had to think about if it would be worth it. We made the trip and it was worth it! They fixed our tile and I was able to purchase another box just in case, but we didn’t ever have another problem. Maybe we get lucky but everyone back in Middlebury are always helpful. We have been out there four times and are headed back again this year. It is one of our favorite places to visit.
Pete

Pete, you echo the treatment I have always had at Entegra. As many will attest to here on the Forum, I have had some one of a kind problems. Unusually problem, like you, go to who built it. Also one of our favorite areas. We make a stop in Shipshewana whenever we are in the area, not even going to Entegra.

Thank you for the information and suggestion. Entegra CS has always been very supportive on the phone and even in the middle of the night.
I’ll try and connect with PJ. Is it ok that I reference this conversation. I can leave your name in or out. Just let me know. My other big concern is the exterior of the Superslide exterior fiberglass wall appears to be separation from the frame. I noticed the silicone caulk separating and then put a straight edge on the exterior wall. It has a 1/4-3/8” bend in the last 4ft of the slide. Doesn’t feel like it’s falling off by any matter of means but it’s definitely a defect that should not happen. We bought Entegra because of the quality of the build. I’m just disappointed at this time with their lack of concern to the problems but I’m talking to a mid level CS person so it sounds like I need to move up the ladder. Thanks again.

More than welcome to use my name and this post. However PJ is now in education and training. The person in charge of Customer Service now is Jacob Shear. With the number of coach now on the road, there is no more "stopping by" at the factory to get work done. Most appointments are made six months out, winter time will get you in sooner. Sending photos will get a head start of what is needed for the right people to be scheduled and material on hand. Older coaches, parts need to be ordered as they do not normally stock older parts.

We broke a couple tiles (cracked) in our 44B. NIRVC replaced them in an afternoon, under warranty. It's been a year and no way to tell which tiles were replaced.

Another source
Everyone loses some tiles, but I am surprised you have lost so many. I think I replaced four. If you can't get more from Entegra, I have seen similar tiles at flooring stores.
Hopefully some on IRV can share some thoughts on why you have lost so many. Do you move between areas of low and high outdoor temperatures frequently or keep your basement heat off or excessively high? I know that some of the cheapo basement thermostats Entegra installs at the factory have failed. I replaced mine with a digital thermostat.

I could not believe they put ceramic tile in coaches.ceramic tile likes very stable base. I probably have 5-6 tiles with cracks in my 04 Hr. Not ready to get rid of them but when I do I’ll probably go with luxury vinyl plank.( something that will move and flex.

Out of curiosity how many limes are on the coach and what type of road conditions has it been driven on? What does it use for leveling, jacks or the air suspension? For many Ceramic floor tiles do become a maintenance thing. As large as your coach is it is only on the K2 chassis. As cost was a factor in design, I would also question not using one of the other flooring systems available these days. Cost, weight, and reduced maintenance. As this is now a 5-year-old rig it would be impressive if they help with the cost for repair.
For the sidewall, I don't know if it is solid fiberglass or fiberglass on a wood or composite backing. Separation from the framing, or substrate is sometime called delamination. Often it is caused by water getting in behind it damaging the substrate and fiberglass bond. Worse is when water gets there and then freezes. If close to the edges sometimes the bad material behind it can be cut out and the skin re-glued. It may just have to be tolerated until it gets very ugly. Often repair involves removing part of the skin, repairing whatever happen underneath and replacing. With paint and finish work this becomes very expensive very fast. Work with Entegra customer service to see what they are willing to do for you. Maybe you can get some "Goodwill" assistance.
