Custom POI's for in dash GPS question

Has anyone loaded custom POI's to an SD card for the in dash GPS's? I have 22,000 "one touch" POI's loaded for Garmin on an SD card. It makes it nice for looking up a Cracker Barrel, etc. without having to type in the name each time. I am wondering if that can be done for the Rand McNally's?

I have a freestanding 7" RM GPS and it can be done on mine so I expect you could do it on the one that comes in your coach. See this link for more info.

I got a bunch of POIs from POI Factory loaded on the RM SD card. If yours are compatible format they should load right up.

We got Dog Park POIs which we disabled. We got tired of the GPS saying "Dog park nearby" every 15 miles and the screen covered with dog prints! Having POIs in the data base but disabled from activity took us a while to figure out.

Thanks for the link Marc. Vance, that is why I was hoping to keep the POI's on an SD card and not load them into the GPS and use them only when I wanted that list of POI's, like "dog parks". Touch the "Extra" POI's like the Gramin and then the dog parks would show up. I will have to play with the POI's on an SD card it see if it will work the same way on the RM. Thanks for the input. I just bought a cheap Garmin to take with me to Middelbury with my POI's on the card until I learn the RM.

I will load my POI's on another SD card with the RM loading program and take that with me as well and see what happens.

Where might I find the dog park poi file? Poi factory shows one for us but has only 16-17 states listed

Chuck - As I recall when you put the SD card in the RM it auto loads what's there, so I don't think you can use it as an on/off for POIs. POI alerts are easy to turn off, visual and audio.

Corey - I didn't notice how many states the dog park POI list had. I think we turned it off before we got out of Texas which is just 86 miles.

Vance, if you don't mind me asking, where do you turn the alerts off. Is there a list on the RM as "extra" POI's or do they all load in with the factory installed POI's

Reason I ask is we load a lot of "special" POI's just for that trip, such as "Wisconsin back roads" or it could be a guided tour of an historical district where we will be on that trip. When I get home, I delete those so my POI list is not cluttered up. It is amazing how many 'special" POI's can be found by searching the POI's under just a States name, such as "Oregon". I make an Oregon POI folder, put in all of the OR POI's then I have them on one list when we get to OR. When I get home the OR folder is deleted. Thanks.

In the RM main Menu, click preferences, under General, click on my custom pois, then click manage custom pois, click on custom poi you want to set. Here you can change distance of alert, warning type and how you want it shown on map. The RM is a great gps for RV's. I run both Garmin and RM. They will all send you down the wrong road on occasion. I do like the RM best!!! Load all your pois and set your alerts and happy trails!!!!!
