Dash cam
I have been thinking about a dash cam for awhile, but I had an incident with an 18 wheeler a couple of days ago that has gotten me off dead center. Question is how many have one and any ideas as to the better ones? Noel

loisjop,
I've been looking at dash cams too. I had intended to use my GoPro, but apparently there are better options as a dash cam.
Here are some links to reviews:
The Best Dash Cam | The Wirecutter
Dashboard Camera Reviews
List of some recommended models:
2014 Favorites
Popular model at a low price point (approximately $60):
G1W / G1WH / G1W-C
High quality cam, small and discreet, but spendy (approximately $220)
Lukas LK-7900 ACE
I'm leaning towards the Lukas right now. When you make a choice, please post your opinion.
Regards,
Dan.

I have an Asian built dash cam I bought in Singapore. It works but displays the coordinates in the opposite hemisphere and will only display KM/HR. The menus are in either Chinese or Malay. There is very little support for most foreign dashCams.
I have been eyeballing the Garmin DashCam 20. It looks decent but the supporting map software is as yet a little klunky looking according to the reviews. In my experience with my Chinese dash Cam, which has two cameras, you only need the front cam. I like the GPS input but some people do not for incriminating issues if YOU break the law. I generally don't speed so the GPS is okay with me. When a nice GPS DashCam comes out with downloadable tracks at a reasonable cost I'll toss the Chinese cam

hogdriver,
It looks like the Lukas (see my post above) does have GPS.

Dan.

The description says GPS , but I don't see it on the display. It might record the coordinates in some software or in the data files.

I found another interesting dashcam review site:
https://dashcamtalk.com/category/dashcamreviews/
Here's the comparison tool:
https://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison-tool/
This is a comparison of several of the cameras that I chose using the comparison tool:
https://dashcamtalk.com/compare/1/36...ama-ii-vs-g1w/
They rate the Powerucc Panorama II the best all around. Two interesting features:
1) Sony Exmor Sensor - Excellent sensor in my opinion.
2) "Buffers video in parking mode (saves 5 seconds before impact / motion detection)" - I've seen this kind of feature before. It's always capturing video to a short term cache. When some event (like an accident) occurs, it writes it to the SD card. Could be very useful.
I'm still trying to figure this out, so I have no real opinions other than I want a decent one.
Regards,
Dan.

One feature that it does NOT appear to have is buffering video. This allows the camera buffer video while in parking mode and then will write to the SD card if there is a sudden g-force event. Like an accident.
I'm inclined to look elsewhere.
Regards,
Dan.

From the windshield witness website....
http://www.windshieldwitness.com/technical.htm
Built in G Force Sensor automatically locks current video file, should your vehicle experience sudden deceleration, abrupt stop or sudden jarring. (Button lock access also) This means that should you have an accident, the file recording the accident will be automatically locked, so that it cannot be overwritten by accident.

Noel,
Sorry to hear about your incident. I did pick up one of the Chinese cams at the last minute just before we left Texas in July figuring it was better than nothing. Steve

I use a 4sight dual lense dash cam. About $150. Used it for over 2 years. Google 4sight.been working good for me.

Dash cam
I have not posted here any as I use to have a fifth wheel and HDT. I have had a few dash cams and the last one was purchased from Always have a witness | VideoDashCam.
I got the trucker special and have been very happy with it. The only draw back is that if you play it back on the attached screen it plays in very short (5 or 10min) segments.
I(We) now own a Entegra Anthem 42 RBQ.
Will get everything set up later Name and all the other stuff.
Ed
