Deadbolt Bolt broke.
Has anyone replaced a broken bolt on the entrance deadbolt? Ordered a replacement from PTL and was wondering what I was getting myself into.

I broke one and replaced it. It’s not hard. There was a thread on it here but I can’t seem to find it.

The link below should open to a number of videos, one being "Deadbolt replacement" that should help you with your issue.

I did it earlier this year. Took me about 10 minutes.

Hardest part will be getting the 2 handles back together and making sure the inside one is grabbing the latch.

What cause(s/d) them to fail? Extended and slammed in the door?
Reason for asking, I routinely tighten, lube, inspect the door mechanisms but wondering if I need to look deeper. Hate to get locked in/out, etc.

Take a look at your door frame at the area of the dead bolt. If it has a mark there, then the door was closed once with the lock open. Happens all the time for some reason.

Exactly.
I don't know why they don't make them out of aluminum instead of that crappy pot metal.

I carry a spare dead bolt and strike plate. No matter how hard I try to keep it from happening, seems like I have to replace the bolt about once per year. Between ham-fisted techs, kids, grand kids, etc., the door is going to get slammed with the bolt extended at some point during the year. It's just a crappy design, the bolt will sometimes "creep" out, or someone unfamiliar with rv coach doors, will extend it then slam the door.....Once bent, the crappy pot metal cannot be straightened, it will snap in half.
It's not terribly hard to replace, just a bit "fiddly". Once you do it, you can do the second one in about half the time.
