DEF

Hello All -

I’m a new member to this forum. Recently purchased an Entegra Esteem XL 32U.

My wife and I are currently in our third week of a trip and have been enjoying it immensely.

I do have a question for anyone with a similar DEF filling spot on their RV. (The chassis is a F550 diesel truck.)

The DEF filling location has got to be the most flawed design I have seen for filling the reservoir. The fill tube runs HORIZONTALLY.

Meaning, gravity isn’t your friend when filling the reservoir and doing so nearly always results in a fair amount of drippage (if you’re lucky and spillage if you’re not).

Has anyone figured a decent technique for filling the DEF reservoir that doesn’t result in DEF covered feet?!

Thanks all!

I'm not familiar w/your configuration, but are you using DEF at fuel pumps or from a DEF jug? I have found that DEF from the pumps does not spill, is cheaper, and fresher. Until you find what works for you, be aware that DEF is corrosive and should be rinsed off from metal surfaces.

Good luck

Thanks. Aware it’s corrosive and needs to be wiped/washed off. No, I’m not using from the pumps, but may give that a try. Appreciated.

Just a thought. How about a battery operated transfer pump that would put the DEF in under pressure.
Harbor Freight has them on sale all the time for about $6. The do work well. https://www.harborfreight.com/batter...ump-63847.html

Make sure it is clean. For $6. I think I would get one just for DEF. Hate to see debris cause a problem with the DEF system, that is not fun, been there with changing DEF heads too many times.

Who is "THEY"? While it might be possible you will likely risk substantial fines if discovered and then be required to reinstall the def system.

Deleting DEF is possible, but is it worth it? There was a post from an owner in Canada that purchased a used 14? from a dealer that the DEF had been deleted. It was caught during an inspection, over $100,000 to put it back the right way. repair damage and suing the dealer. Last post was that he did not have much case against the dealer. People delete DEF, but what about the resale? Will a purchaser down the road sue, turn the person that deleted the DEF into the EPA? I have had to replace 4 DEF heads over the years. I carry a simulator for emergency and keep on using the MH as designed, DEF in intact.

There are some false rumors circulating on the 'net that the new administration signed an EO rolling back emission standards. Nothing has changed - tampering with emissions controls is still a federal offense...

Cheaper ?
Depends where you buy your DEF in the container. I buy at Rural King, Tractor Supply and Wal-mart. I test it before I fill. Since I have a Sprinter, it only holds 5 gallons, the 2.5 gallon cartons are perfect size when the DEF is half empty.

If I had a DP or Cmax, there is no way I'd be filling from jugs.

A federal fine that could exceed the value of your coach.

Don't. Really, just don't.

Right just goes to show you what is really important new regulation enforcement but burning down cities is epa friendly.
