DEF filling

Holy coe Entegra, why have you installed the DEF tank on the passenger side of the Anthem? It seems truck stops only provide DEF pumps on the driver side. This results in me paying about $60 to fill the tank with the box brand. It's only a 5 gal tank so from the pump would be less then half that. What do other owners do in this case?

Keep a couple of extra DEF jugs and fill them at the truck stop pumps. Where are you buying DEF that's $60 for five gallons? The last I bought in December at a Tractor Supply was less than $10 for 2.5 gallons. And by the way, their packaging is far superior to the Wal Mart brand.

Well yes, my DEF tank is on the right side of the coach, but it also has a fill port on the left side of the coach.

I'll add this from Menards.

Made by the same people who make Blue DEF and Peak products, Old World Industries. The date code format is even the same!

Wow! No fill on the other side? That’s a PITA. I think Lt Dan has the solution for you with refillable jugs.

Don’t understand why some folks want to pay double for a name brand. As long as it is certified to ISO 22241 and isn’t old, it will do the job.

I had a 14 for 4 years. Never had a problem with Walmart DEF, now at $8 something per 2.5 gallons. I filled my tank as the DW was putting the groceries away, both were due at about the same time. It was our double tasking and worked well for us. Always carry a spare jug. Check the seals on the bottle before purchasing.

Walmart DEF in 2.5 gallon bottles . Cheap and easy. Fill at campground or wherever else you are parked. This is a non-issue.

Agree. I order 4 at a time from Walmart dot com and shipping is free.

Check the seals on the bottle before purchasing.

That's the most IMPORTANT thing, since people have been known to buy a jug, empty out the DEF, fill jug w water & return it. Then someone else buys that jug & ruins their DEF system. BEWARE!!!!

The things people do for $10-20. AMAZING.

I have heard that some aftermarket RV service shops can INSTALL a DEF door and filler on your drivers side at your expense if it really bothers you. I just keep two jugs to fill on the passenger side after fueling.

I can fill mine from the driver's side door AFTER moving it forward after fueling. The problem is that you have to guess at how much it will hold & keep going back & forth to actually see the level in the DEF tank. I think the jugs are a better way to go.

I'm not particularly squeamish, but truck stop DEF nozzles are nasty. Walmart jugs and a cheap battery operated transfer pump make the job a lot cleaner and more convenient.

Agreed on poor design, semis have the DEF filler next to the saddle tanks. Spartan saved a few feet of hose and wiring by not locating the def system forward of the radiator on the passenger side. The truck stop nozzles are indeed nasty and the hose reels awkward to deal with. This is what happens when cubicle dwellers design systems that they do not use.
