2018 Cornerstone - Last summer I had a DEF Gen 5 failure in a diesel station when trying to re-start engine to leave. I had driven around 300 mi that day with no issues. Got full de-rating right away.

It was a sunny day over dash and probably I missed any warnings.

Thanks to the great members of this group I had the DSS I had built on board. It was a 10 min job to install it. Engine run as supposed for the next + 2000 miles. I could complete the family trip thanks to the emulator.

When back home, I reported it to Spartan that replaced the sensor under warranty with a Gen 7. So far so good.

Lesson for me was that DSS is a life saver device that allowed me to get out of trouble, enjoy planned trip and plan service at my convenience. Priceless.

The great members of this team deserve all the credit in designing the device and helping me in building and installing it with confidence. This group is priceless as well.

Thank you all!

Tony

I know it’s already been asked, but I would also like to know what style head failed. I’ve got a simulator ready to go but not sure if it will work on the new style head?

Marc not to long ago was shopping for a newer vintage Cornerstone. I assumed he was questioning about the new DEF heads, if not....my bad.

The reason that I asked is because I am getting very close to buying a 2020 Cornerstone. 10 years with my 2013 Anthem and never a DEF problem. I am spoiled, and a bit concerned about moving “up” to the land of failing DEF heads.

Marc, build one of these: https://defsim.myervin.com/ You'll be able to put your DEF failure concerns to rest.

Peace of mind is worth the cost.

Take care,
Stu

I intend to build it, unless someone wants to sell me one.

Ummm, well, I've got one. However, we'll be departing in a couple of days with a less than year old Gen 7 DEF header (replaced under warranty). Although I have no reason to expect that to fail, I'm just not ready to give up my "insurance policy". Sorry.

I'm not sure about current parts availability for the components. I know that some time ago, it was difficult to source the some of components.

Take care,
Stu

My DEF head is the new style made by Errecinque not Shaw. The emulator worked just fine to bypass it.

Marc, the Simulater was very simple to build, a screw driver, wire stripper and a soldering iron was all that was needed. The cost was under $70. when I assembled mine. To be honest I would be more concerned about the batteries than the DEF head. I have had both fail, the batteries were a heck of bigger hassle to change, and cost a lot more. I could easily change a DEF head in 45 minutes sitting down and they are still under warranty. Batteries 124 pounds each, 2 man job, with my back, and no warranty.

Not only DEF Head but VEGA Touch and other technology that's great when it works and for me totally frustrating when it doesn't and why we've held onto our 16 Anthem and soon departing the RV Lifestyle. We've had a TECMA Module on order fully paid for but still not available .

You're BRAVE Mark , GOOD LUCK !

Thank you! That’s exactly the information I was looking for.
