Diesel Price Question

Today in White Hill, AZ I pulled into a TA Express where the listed price was $5.83 per gallon. I paid $5.14 per gallon with my TSD Card, saved $55 on the transaction. Sweet! However before I started pumping the station screen said $166.23 for 96 gallons. I pumped 90 gallons and paid $488.............do they get that much of a discount? No issue as I realize they must keep moving but what am I missing?

Was that transaction for fuel or DEF?

That would be a $1.73 a gallon. That is way below wholesale cost.

Can't imagine any vehicle with a 100 gallon DEF tank unless it was a separate tank. Plus the price of DEF at a TA is over $4.00 a gallon.

The screen at the pump only shows the pre-discount price, not what you pay with the card. So I think there was an error somewhere.

Within a minute, your actual charge should show on the “card control” app. Mine appears very quickly and long before I depart the station I have the official cost, number of gallons, and savings.

If there was a disagreement, I’d be back at the fuel desk before pulling away.

Your quantity number is nuts. That might make sense for a semi that was there before you but not for you.

I also have my phone with me and routinely take a picture of the pump display to have a photographic record.

Good info on how fast the info shows up Gary.
I did not realize it was quick.
I have been getting an email or checking the app later in the day to see the actual discounted charge. I like the idea of getting to see the price difference in near real time.

I have become a fan of TSD.

Yes......TSD posts immediately, my wife has the discount before I get back into the coach. That is not the confusion, before I started my transaction and the previous truckers final purchase info was still up on the screen it said $166.23 for 96 gallons. I realize that is not the discounted price.....that was my point. My screen said $533 for 90 gallons when I was done, but TSD discount on my account was $488. The question is the previous massive discount and how do I get that.......lol.

I still don't see how any trucker would have been able to purchase fuel at that price when bulk yesterday was 5.509 a gallon average US and

6.021 west coast. Unless the company he drove for had prepaid fuel and that was the increased price over prepaid with the current increase in diesel. https://www.bulkloads.com/tools/diesel-prices/

None of us will be able to purchase fuel $3.77 below bulk. Only reasonable explanation is a large company with a prepaid account.

i have fueled at that station.

did you fuel at a commercial pump? after your finished did you go in and get your $.08/gal state diesel tax rebate? rv's by definition are non-commercial and are entitled to an $.08/gal state tax refund if fueled at a commercial pump.

I did not know that....is that in conjunction with the TSD card? Yes I iced the commercial pump. Interesting info, I wonder how many other states do that.

There are several states that automatically charge the commercial tax, but state law doesn't require motorcoaches to pay that tax. Seems to me that Indiana is another one.

Someone will come along and give us the full list. Again, most states dont make a distinction and motorcoaches are going to pay the full commercial tax, but some states do make the distinction.

Indiana is just the opposite. DOT registered vehicles (semis) with a DOT number are tax exempt. I know for a fact, I tried, not one station but two. . MH's get to pay the tax.

Ahhhhhh, now that memory comes back to me. Strange !

Makes no sense..... buy diesel before you get there. Same as PA (~$1.00 state tax). Although its my home state, I buy before I get there and try to ensure that I dont buy again until after I leave. Pennsylvania, I am willing to help on taxes, but come on... !, get serious, and your roads largely are a mess of pot holes and bad highways...
