Different (?) Shade Problem

One of my windshield night shades (yellow motor) was out of adjustment so I set about adjusting it - my first attempt at that.

Got the UP position set OK, then worked on the DOWN position - was able to get it to the proper place also. But...

Now when I tap down the shade unspools all the way (going past the set point) and then rolls back up to the proper DOWN position. When I tap up the shade again unspools all the way (while the other side has started up) then rolls back up to the proper UP position.

What have I done wrong and how do I correct it?

Thanks for your help.

Ron, more than likely, that is a shade motor going out. That happened to my first motor and Bill in FL, the shade expert, told me that was the first sign of the motor going out.

Not necessarily...could be you got the up and down reversed. That happened to me...when I adjusted the opposite of what I thought everything worked fine on the limit adjustments.

Entirely possible as I really couldn't make much sense out of the various sets of instructions I found. I was kinda surprised I got it to move at all when trying to adjust.

The instructions for adjusting are totally useless and confusing. The adjusting screw marked with a "II" is for the down. The adjusting screw for up is marked with a "I". There is also a time limit on the shade travel of about 20 seconds which you may be running into. Adjust the shade only while it is moving in the direction you want to adjust. When the shade stops and reaches the present limit continue to adjust and the shade will move in small increments. When it times out, stop, reverse the direction for a few inches and stop, then continue in the direction you want to adjust again and turn the screw to move the shade in small increments until you get it to where you want it. Do this for both up and down and you will be set.

I would shorten up the travel in both directions until you get control over each setting and start again.

Thanks for the help folks. We just got settled in for the Hilton Head rally and I'll fiddle with it tomorrow. The techs from NIRVC are going to do a repair on our coach this week (uncontrollable bath vent fan) and I'll ask them about it if I can't get it.

X 2 Don...your instructions are spot-on!
Ron, you must shorten the travel in both directions and start the adjustments in small increments as Don pointed out. I had an entry shade that did the same thing and I was able to adjust it to the correct stopping points. Caution, do not let the shade roll all the way around the roller at the top or bottom, stop it manually and adjust it some more....you'll get it I'm sure!

Well, thanks for the good advice folks, but I have to admit I cheated. Mike from NIRVC readjusted it for us yesterday while here at the Hilton Head rally. Saving this good info for next time.
