Dining chairs

Is it just me, or do y'all think the chairs for the table are too short? Seem to be hard to get in and out of and feel too short sitting in. I'm thinking of possibly changing them out for more substantial chairs. Thoughts?

We got rid of ours too. They were so cushy that when you sat in them you could practically rest your jaw on the table as you sunk in. Plus they had a severe rake to the back and all you had to do was look at them and they would tip over. But these chairs are made by R.E.M. in Wakarusa. REM supplies lots of RV manufacturers and Bradd and Hall handles them as well. When at the Madison FMCA show I talked to Bradd and gave him the info from the bottom of the chair. We ordered some better chairs from him and he was able to match the upholstery that we had.

I'm thinking of just going to a furniture store and seeing what they have that would fit. Maybe bring one of the chairs with me and see ... another thought I have is in our S&B in NOLA I have two extra chairs from our dining room table .... maybe bring one over and see if it fits or not.

I agree, residential chairs should work fine.

Lynn

I assume you have the dinette with two chairs under the table.
I dont know about you but I tend to spend a lot of time sitting at the laptop computer and the "desk" (such that it is....... in this one regard, I sure miss my real desk in my old Monaco Dynasty.....) My problem with the chair is simply that with long sitting (I read the NYT and the WashingtonPost) and a bunch of other sites (while the DW gets a few extra minutes of sleep each morning ) and I find that after an hour or more, the "cush" of the cushion is largely gone and I feel like I am sitting on the wood frame. So, for us, the biggest problem is with comfort. Dee has made secondary foam rubber cushions that sit on top of the normal cushions and permit comfortable sitting for longer periods of time. We may well replace them with something more substantial and more comfortable at some time in the future. A high end consignment shop might be your friend...

We got these chairs from the Pottery Barn. They sit well and go with the decor. They are made from some type of woven grass. They are the standard height of 18 inches at the seat frame. They are also not as deep so the work better in the tight 44B sitting area. Because the grass may wear we put brown pillow cases over the backs and brown cushions on the seats. You'll find that the stock chairs with the coach are only 16 inches at the frame. Typical RV under sizing. We put the stock chairs in storage.

This might be the solution ... can you take a picture of the pillow case over the backs and the brown cushions?

Gary ...
Don't the cushions "move" and have to be put back on everytime you get up? I'm thinking of this solution as well. I am afraid our S&B chairs will be too wide for the space. Thanks, Lynn

Lynn, on our last MH that had the chairs, the fabric gave way while on a long trip. We found form fitting seat covers at Walmart, or Target, that fit like a glove. Worked great until we got home to have the seat reupholstered. After having the chairs recovered, we put the seat covers back on until we sold the coach.

Dining chairs

I hate those dinette chairs! I have
to sit on one of those squishy pads they show on TV because we do not have a phone book. When I sit down the table is chest high.. Feel like I am at the "kiddie table" They fall over in transit. During our driving lesson at the Hilton Head Rally, the dining chair fell over during a sharp turn and caused a huge black and blue mark on my inner calf as I was sitting on the couch at the time! I also fell off the couch and hit the fireplace area during another turn! Survived to tell the tale!

I agree. Chairs are too short and poorly padded.

Some crazy drivers at the Rally, I'm gathering :-) I am going to do something with the chairs, that's for sure. Way to "short" for my taste!

Lynn, We had a commercial upholsterer redo the chairs in our TS and they were better than new. He put in heaver foam padding and matched the 10 year old fabric perfect. I think the total cost was $125. When he was finished, we finally sat table height.
