Direct to dish

Hello there, we have a 2015 Aspire with a winguard crank up dish. Every time we move it is a big hassle & an hour on the phone talking to a bunch of idiots.
We have changed out home tv to Dish because she spend hrs on the phone for 4 months trying to pay our bill. Finally she had enough & we called Dish & they came right out & it is cheaper.
Yesterday I spend an hour on the phone got transferred to 5 idiots & had almost lost my temper. If I had it involves a bunch of 4 letter words in a loud voice!!
Today after only 3 idiots I got the travelers direct number so I don’t have to talk to a computer that keeps telling it doesn’t under stand what I want.
My question anyone know what is involved to switch my dish from direct to Dish??
Thanks bruce

There is a ton of information up here about this process.... there are many threads that deal with the problems as well as the solutions. You need to search for those threads. The process costs roughly $450 to do and it is not as straightforward as you would hope as there are a lot of variations across coach models and also many versions of the hardware from Dish... they are constantly evolving their products and bringing out new replacements which require different wiring and connections. I just did this and my costs were about $450. It took a lot of thinking and lot of consultation to accomplish it (with Voltdoc's help).

Or you can pay a sat specialist to do all the connections for you. It has to be someone that knows Entegra logic also. I diverted to Middlebury on a trip to find a Dish tech who knew enough about the wiring to conclusively prove to Direct that I had a serious problem (this was described in a separate thread of mine). I now use my house equipment in the bus as there is no one at the S&B while we travel and move the equipment back and forth from one house to another. Had to change my account to a mobile account (including the S&B) so that I could change locals. It was not a simple or quick change, but I am very glad that I no longer have to deal with DirecTV CS who have to be the dumbest group of tech service people known to man.... WOW. ITs really not their fault.... they have simply never been told about people who travel the country from location to location by their instructors, but WOW, what frustration to work with that company. I would not go back to them if they gave free service for 5 yeas and paid for a tech to do all the conversion.... No way !!!

That thread was very helpful, but sadly, equipment avaible from Amazon and even schematic electrical diagrams have changed a time or two from what Rob posted so that doing that switch as recently as last December encountered a bunch of problems because things have changed and cant be successful simply following Rob's guidance.... it took him consulting with me to adapt what he did to get my system to work. I spent a good deal of time head scratching on this conversion to understand the differences and complexities.

Equipment is evolving at a very rapid pace. Older versions of equipment can be found up on various pages, but the main sources often have the most recent versions only

Direct to dish

Doesn’t the OP. Have a crank up single lnb dish ? The travler isn’t “crank “ up How are cost to convert a travler relevant?
If the op does have a crank up I’d buy a portable 250-300 bucks auto dish tailgater or playmaker and a wally tuner for 80 bucks and call and turn it on.

You are right on the dish part of his question and the irrelevance of Trav'ler info. I assumed he was interested in converting to the Trav'ler (although he would just buy a DISH version. I was also talking about the wiring in the coach.

But thanks for reminding me of the limited aspect of the OP question.

Direct to dish

Since the op has dish at home. The tailgater or “like” dish and a wally will only involve 7 bucks of additional monthly charges, that can be added or removed as needed
Not only that but If they also have a hopper 3 at home using Dish anywhere app ( with a healthy data plan ) you can get all the home channels wherever you are. It’s just not as easy to get on the big screen. Very doable though
The beauty of it is Any of these will involve no phone calls to CS ... ever. Once the portable is on the account you can turn it on as you travel and off when done from your account page online

Sorry to highjack the OPs question, but for the dish converts, anyone know if you can you run an in-motion and TRAV'LER - DW has her requirements, so we have both installed

thinking of planning a summer update

Yes, I had a 2012 Entegra that had both and both worked fine.
