Direct TV

If I order a H24 Receiver off Amazon or Ebay is all I have to do is plug it in and call Direct TV and have them activate it? I think we need to use that dish on the roof. Tired of making do with over the air and streaming

I have a question-

How do I connect to satellite on a month to month basis?
Since we do not travel that much, I think it will be less expensive to get a good Wi-Fi/cell equipment and just do streaming....while we are parked next to a stream!

Any thoughts?

Best

Only provider with month to month without have service at home is DISH with Pay as You Go. Buy a Wally for $79. and you can turn it off and on with the phone app.

Chuck speaks the truth !!

I think there might be a minimum 30 day (one month) turn-on minimum. Not sure but I think I heard that.

I'm thinking I'll give Winegard a call and switch my Traveler over to Dish. I am hoping it won't be too big a PITA.

It's not hard. Voltdoc did a fantastic photo post on his website of the process. https://myquantumdiscovery.com/conve...a-2017-entegra

If you do the work, it will cost you about $350-$400 to make the change, and a couple hours, and it will be money well spent. The only complication is that there is a splitter that is different if your coach is a certain vintage and another splitter if it is a different vintage,. Voltdoc knows the nuances. I've made the switch with both coaches, and Dish is a MUCH EASIER company to work with.

Winegard sells a kit with all the structural steel and electronics that you will need to switch. It includes a new arm, new LNB heads and bracket. Then you may or may not need to change the splitter in the basement,. All in all, it is not a big job to do yourself.

On the new 21 it was wired incorrectly from Entegra where they installed the Green" splinter for Direct, it needs the "orange" splitter for DISH. Unless that has changed again.

Talked to Winegard about switching to Dish. CUstomer Service agent said necessary part ( the arm/ long bit that goes out from parabolic) has been back ordered for months with no known arrival time.

She said Direct TV requires a two yr contract.

Stars don’t seem to be lining up for satellite tv

Then get busy with Google and call every damn Satellite installation and service company in the United States. You KNOW that there are 50 of those adapter kits sitting at various companies that install and do conversions. Every big Entegra dealer (i.e. NIRVC etc.) has a company that does all their conversions from Direct to Dish (and there are a bunch of them since most of us got sick of Direct interactions a long time ago....) Also be sure and do a thorough search of EBAY for some guy that would be happy to sell you one of his kits in stock for 50-100% more than he normally charges. Time is of the essence...

Seriously, there are conversion kits sitting out there.... you just need to find one before the next guy finds it. !!!!!!!! Get dialing and 'Googling" !!!!

So, I have a conversion kit coming Monday. I also, ordered a Wally. Not sure what the difference is between a Wally, Joey and Hopper and what would be best for our Anthem. Volt Docs install pics are good, but not sure what is happening in the basement and how it relates to my install. Not real clear when I read his webpage that Brobox posted. Guess I'll have to work through it when the kit shows up.

Depending on when your coach came down the line, some coaches are wired from the factory with three wires coming out of the turret on the roof and come down to a splitter/amplifier in the basement, and from there the coax goes to the matrix switch (I think you have one in the basement like I do). Other coaches that came down the line have a different age splitter in them. As I remember, you have to remove the splitter in the basement and replace it with a different one if it is one vintage of coach and with a different one if its a second vintage of coach. My memory is that instead of three wires, when I converted to DISH, I used only one wire coming down from the LNBs up on the roof rather than three and that required a different splitter and amplifier in the basement..... sorry but my memory is vague even though I made the change only about a year ago (I have frankly tried to repress even the name DirecTV from my memory.... What a constant pain in the ass that company was..... Repression tends to be a fairly massive way to forget unpleasant stuff (not highly selective) so most of my memory of that whole change process has been dumped by my "ego").

Anyhow, the conversion up on the roof is a piece of cake. That is not your problem. You may need to consult directly with VoltDoc on which splitter you need based on what you find down in the basement.

Now, walleys and Hopper III, and Joeys are vastly different items. A Hopper III is a 2 terabyte hard drive, maybe 18 channels simultaneously able to record programming system and you can be recordings 10 channels of your stuff that you specifically want to record plus it records all network channels even if you dont want them during prime time.... I wouldn't have anything other than a Hopper III in my coach. A Walley I am less familiar, but I dont believe it has any hard drive in it, and I dont believe that you can watch or record more than one channel at a time.... Google those units and read up on Dish's site and you will get the straight information. A Joey is a wired or wireless remote device that goes between a second or third or 4th television location and the Hopper III which lets each of those TVs operate independently of any other TV as far a viewing channel is concerned. I don't think you need Joeys with a Wally, but I might be wrong. Its all explained up on Dish's web page.
