I realize that the whole process in talking with Dish Customer/Technical service was that my default sat was 129 and my two Hoppers (one at home, one in bus) just kept trying to download the non-existent or non-functioning sat signal and what he was leading me through was a process of deleting that 129 sat out of the default position and adding in another sat that was still working well.

Frankly, I rarely pay attention if the picture is SD or HD so I could care less what signal I am getting. More and more, Dee and I feel that there is becoming little that we actually watch on TV other than 24 hour news and the "late night" shows (we are night owls at least until midnight) and the rest of the several hundred channels are just wasted electromagnetic spectrum for us.

Gary,
Not trying to turn this into a streaming vs satellite post, but I tried to Google search what happened to the 129 bird. Like you with the hour spent with CS trying to get an answer, the website was not any better. posted what I found, but that was not acceptable to some.

During rain fade here in FL, 129, the HD bird and local sat was always the first one to go down. Had to have an OTA antenna to watch the evening news as that's when the afternoon thunderstorms came in. During that period, DISH would come on the screen saying the programing was being switched SD. You could really notice the difference, with square shaped picture and low quality

From what you are saying that you are not seeing a difference, they must have already switched HD over to another Sat. The DISH site did show an number of increased outages which must have been those that noticed...others no change in service. But the website did show an increase.

Dish has planned to decommission the 129 sat for some time now. We use both the eastern arc and western arc and found the 129 out yesterday. If you can’t get your receivers to work properly, there is a procedure to fix the issues now that the 129 is shut down. You can find the info at satelliteguys.us under the Dish support forum and a thread called Hopper is screwed. The procedure works for Hoppers or Wally’s. The older Winegard Traveler uses the western arc but according to Winegard, once you do the fix on the receiver, the Traveler will work fine. Hope this helps. The 129 is only on the western arc.Chuck
