Never had a regen light either in and Im' at 26,000+ miles now. I noticed that the ISX drivers don't seem to see them but the ISL engines do. Might be a fluke or just that the larger ISX doesn't load up as much at isle as the ISL.

I follow the same practice with high idle. After I start up, within 30 seconds or so I hit high idle while the coach airs up to ride height and I retract the slides. Also, we don't spend much time idleing in traffic out here in west Texas.

I did miss it but even so, Entegra doesn't use your engine. The Cornerstone only uses the 600 HP ISX and my post was in reference to Entegra coaches. The ISX was made in 650 HP versions for a short time but that engine was tweaked to provide that extra power and reliability issues surfaced. My guess is that the extra fuel run through them has some effect of the DPF which may be contributing to the need for more frequent regeneration.

Extended idles will soot up the DPF which can trigger a hard regen. During a hard regen diesel fuel is injected and ignited in front of the particulate filter to literally burn the accumulated soot from the filter. The light comes on to let you know that it is happening. During regeneration the exhaust outlet temperature can go way up, so it is a good thing to know about.

During normal driving the engine control computer (ECM) will, as needed conduct soft regens by altering the fuel injection algorithms to elevate the exhaust gas temperature to burn the collected soot in the DPF. These happen during extended highway driving cycles and do not activate any lights. Soft regens are transparent and are more fuel efficient than hard regens. Hard regens only occur when the DPF has sooted up and the soft regens are not effective. Hard regens generate higher temperatures for more effective soot removal.

So, in summary, your driving patterns dictate the frequency of hard regens. Long idle periods, city driving, etc. will cause more frequent regens. They are not a bad thing and you should not be concerned. So if you are stuck in traffic and are required to idle for long periods, don't fret, it's not going to hurt anything.

As a side note, I only idle to air up the system and while hooking up the toad. I do not idle to warm up the engine like many RVers do. In 21,000 miles I have not seen a hard regen.

I was trying to remember when my regen happened as I got stuck in stop and go traffic for about 10 miles in CA. I honestly can't remember if it was before or after the heavy traffic.
I don't sit and idle either, just enough to air up, make a quick walk around and go. I do need to get my Smartwheel fixed though as nothing on it is working and wipers are necessary in the Pacific NorthWet in the fall!

Larry,

Very good explanation, thanks. I have never had a hard regen but I think I have seen a soft regen while driving because I saw the temperature of the right front toads tire temperature/pressure monitor increase much higher than the rest.

Seems as if this has been put to bed, but FWIW I've seen the DPF regen message twice in the first 4000 miles in my 2018 Anthem DEQ. Regen takes 20-25 minutes Google says its normal and has good explanations

Maybe there is a change on the 605HP Cummins engine that is in the 2018 models, perhaps they need to regen more often and the light comes on every time. 2017 and before are the 600HP engine I believe. I have over 25,000 miles on my "classic 2014" Anthem and have never noticed a regen light in the 4 years that I have owned it.

The X15 is a redesign of the ISX15. This is entirely possible.
