Drain Plug Size

Like others, I will replace the OEM oil drain plug with one of the easy flow/quick release plugs during my upcoming oil change. Can anyone provide me with the oil drain plug size for the ISL9-2010 engine?

Peter, that should be the F 104 series for your engine. http://http://www.fumotousa.com/

I use the short nipple one so it is easier to hit a 1 gallon jug. Which ever one works for the way you will change your oil.

The first oil drain - without the Fumoto, is the toughest; having a drain pain large enough to capture the rush of hot oil without making the Exxon Valdez in your driveway.

Get the plug out and measure it. It depends on the oil pan they used and they had several. Another choice would be to buy several sizes of plugs from your local auto supply store first, pull yours out and plug with your thumb (or cork) and match it up, then send away for what you need. You can swap the plugs with loss of about a cup of oil, but make sure it's cold when you do it.

If this helps....I use two 5 gallon buckets with lids. I have a friend that is a commercial painter, so the buckets are free.

There is a top drain plug on the pan that will only fill a 5 gallon bucket...drain that one first into one of the buckets. Finish draining with the lower plug and the second bucket...I use the jacks to get the bucket under the bottom drain plug. Snap the lids on and drop the oil off at Walmart.

That was on my 350 but the 450 looks to be the same. Not sure about the 600 HP.

However, I think on the Entegra I am going to have Speedco do the first oil change and have them install the Fumoto....it's a lot easier.

Like Chuck, I plan to have Speedco provide the next oil change when we return from our current trip to Montana, Wyoming and Idaho in early November. Thanks all for the valuable information.

14 gallons on the ISX15, gulp. I may have to try the thumb-trick to get the Fumoto on first. No Speedco anywhere near me.

Please have someone video the "thumb method" of swapping out oil drain plugs.

I would like to see that :-)

14 gallons, oh my! What ever you do, it is going to be a mess. The closest Speedco to me is at the FL/GA state line, but that is normally our overnight stop coming home, so it will also be the oil change stop.

Wait until winter on a real cold day, then do the thumb method.

Video?????

Hold plug in with thumb as you unscrew the threads all the way

Slide other thumb into the hole as you pull loose plug out

Reverse process for re-installation of the plug

Sorry, no video, Ran out of thumbs.

Actually, there are 2 Sppedcos in the DFW area, we do go through there frequently. Not sure if my OCD will permit someone else to change my oil. That is something I've never done.

Neither have I, and I WILL be watching. That first one is sure messy.
