OK, what are the torque specs on the K-3 chassis? Outside of BonS chart, what is the torque for the K3 drive axle? Ernie stated his was torqued to 85, is that correct? It is different than the chart posted?

Beats me, but neither 55-71 or 170-190 foot pounds seems likely.
Its also a different issue
I plan to call Spartan and get the information from the horse's mouth, and will publish it up here. I doubt that either of those pressure ranges have anything to do with steer or tag axle oilers. ....

Put a socket on the nuts. If they take a 11/16ths socket... 55-71lbs
If they take a 15/16ths...170-190.

One person with the problem on a K3 chassis said 85 pounds given to him by Spartan in post #29. Since this is about drive axles and leaking, accurate torque information will be useful for those with the problem if this post is to be archived for the search function.
Are the rear axles on the K3 Dana or Meritor?

Who builds the axle?
Probably Dana/Spicer.

I was told they changed in the later year to Meritor, but I do not know this for a fact, only hearsay.

Ah!
They may have their own torque chart.

I asked Big Mike for the correct torque on the nuts for my K3 chassis axle hub and he sent me this document. It covers at least back to my 2015 chassis used on my 2017 CS to current production....as of right now. This document is just for the K3 Chassis.
We have Iron axle hubs. The reference to split dowels is wrong per Mike. He said that the tapered dowels are solid and doesn't think they ever used split tapered dowels.
Hope this helps..!

Soooooooo, 185 foot pounds plus or minus 10 foot pounds.
I thought that our drive axle was made by Meritor, not by Dana (2019 K3 chassis) (I'll confirm with Spartan but thanks Jeanne )

Just got off the phone with Shane at Spartan to confirm the torque specs for my lubrication outer flange.
First, at least on my coach (2019 Cornerstone), the drive axle is a Dana/Spicer S23-19OFO model axle. The nuts for the outer flange are to be torqued to 185 foot pounds of torque.
Now, other years or models might be different.

On our London Aire with the Spartan K-3 chassis for the first 5000 miles we had Coach Net come out because of the large amount of gear oil leaking from the axle gasket. The paper gasket was a big part of the problem but also found that the rear end gear oil was over filled by at least one gallon. There are 2 plugs at the top of the rear end housing with top a inspection point and below the over fill plug. The rear end had over a gallon of gear oil because it was filled to the inspection plug. After draining to the proper level and the thick rear axle leaks ended.
