Driver Safety Course
Newbie here again,
Does taking an RV Driver Safety course help as far as insurance coverage is concerned? Where would you find an actual RV Safety Course? I've been to numerous Mercedes Benz Driving Schools and also AMG and Skip Barber Racing Schools, would these help get an insurance discount?
Thanks in advance,
George

We didn't get anything. We took both the LD and the Spartan course.

The recent quotes I have been getting are a 10% discount for the drivers safety course. It has to been taken in the past 3 years, so I will take it again at LD when we pick up our Anthem.
Emerson, call your insurance company and ask if they give the discount. Most of the companies I have just had quotes from have asked me. When I tell them I am taking the coarse again, the discount has been applied to the quote.

We asked and got a no. When renewal comes up in a few weeks, we'll go after it again. Erie Ins. Thanks for all the feedback on rates earlier.

I don't believe all insurance companies offer a discount so you'll need to ask. My recommendation for a safety class is through the RV Driving School. 8 hours of instruction with you in the drivers seat. Check 'em out at RV School

More than 1/2 of the quotes on that list asked if I belonged to any RV groups, such as Good Sams or FMCA. Why that made a difference, I don't know. The next question was about an RV safety driving class and Lazy Days class is acceptable. For 10% discount that was good enough for me
The companies I am considering said a verbal that I took the class was OK. Some companies did not give a discount for anything.

Your auto driving courses mean little when it comes to driving a 40 ft + motorhome. Do complete one of the RV courses mentioned above. It will make you safer and probably save you money in the long run.

When betting agents yourself there is no amount of training that will help!

My wife and I have completed driving courses twice a few years apart. Our insurance gives a 10% discount for a year. We are going to do it again this spring. While I drive most of the time my wife needs to feel she can to - if needed. We take our course thru a certified Semi drivers course offered by the local 2 year college. They modified the course to fit RV. They have two sections - one for gas and one for diesel. It costs a couple hundred to do. It take about 16 hours. The first 8 hours (2 or 3 evenings) to talk and discuss the issues and 8 hours (4 hours for each of us) driving and backing. Great system and makes my life easier.
