Dryer vent - Anthem

Hi guys. We have been reading some comments about problems experienced by RV'ers caused by build up of lint in dryer vent. Just wondering how you fellow Anthem owners deal with this. We have the stackable washher dryer. How do you clean the lint? Is there access from inside? Are you using air hose? We are relatively new owners (5 mos use) and the issue had not occurred to us. Now we are worried.

Originally, Tiffin used a drier vent cap that had a screen inside it on the Allegro Bus when they first offered washer-driers in them. They found that it could plug up and required removing the vent cap to clean it. In subsequent years they installed drier caps without that screen. If your Anthem has a screen in the vent cap you'll be able to see it by lifting up the flap from the outside. If it does, I would just remove the screen and throw it away.

Not an Anthem or a stacker, but I have poked a small gauge stiff wire up the vent hose from outside while the dryer is running and wriggled it around to knock some lint loose a couple of times a year while in full time use. It keeps fairly free on its own, expelling lint balls from time to time, but my wire will always knock a lot more loose.

I saw a neat looking gadget on one of those tv infomercials called the "Lintlizard". Youcan google it. For the price I think I'm going to order one and give it a try.

Hi Bill:
Have any Anthem owners have had any problems? We are currently in Naples and wife has the dryer going, so I checked to see what was going on outside. Taking some quick measurements, it looks like the dryer vents straight out from the dryer. Seems like it would be awful tough to plug it but I haven't taken the dryer out to see how it hooks up in the back(and I hope I never have to!!!)

Cruzer,
If there is a screen would that be to keep rodents out?

Probably. I'd guess it's standard practice. However, not too many rodents are going to climb up the side of a shiny painted coach to get in there. Either way, I've never ever seen anyone have any issues after removing it. The only issues seem to be the plugging up of the screens.

Besides, if you did get a rodent in I'd just keep the clothes out and turn it on and watch him spin around awhile until he figures it's time to go out the way he came in.

More likely insects of the nest building variety ...I never had such problems in a stick house w/o a screen, so doubt I would have in an RV. As long as the flapper closes pretty well when not in use, I wouldn't worry about it.

We took at trip back to Australia one time and upon returning found the dryer didn't work. After rooting around, I pulled off the vent line at the back of the dryer and found what looked to be a genuine Davy Crockett coonskin cap sticking out of the dryer. Actually, that tail was still attached to a squirrel!
