ECM squeal

My 2015 Aspire has developed a new noise. It seems like it's coming from the engine control module which is located under the coach and basically under the driver's feet. This is a constant squeal that is best described as a cooling fan with bad bearings...the squeal begins immediately with turning the ignition key on and doesn't require the engine to be started.

Has anyone run into this?

Is there a fan on the ECM?

Thanks!

John

Not sure what you are hearing but the Engine Control Module (ECM) is mounted on the engine in the rear of the coach on the passenger side. It does not contain any moving parts at all.
Whatever you are hearing is not the ECM. Can you post a photo of what you are referring to?

I've never seen an ECM with a fan, but it's possible an electronic component is making the noise, also possible that it's an intentional alarm, but I'd think that would be inside the cab. Have you unplugged the ECM to see if the noise still comes on?

Possible it is the dash heat/AC fan?

The Spartan Control Module is up there in the generator compartment. I don't believe it has a fan though.

It does, at least mine does. Standard box fan, probably 12v unit.

There's a module up near the drivers side headlights mounted on the frame. I thought that was the SCM,

Ray...
Yep, that's the module that the sound seems to be from.
Sorry I mistook the engine control module for the Spartan Control Module.
I will be home today and hopefully able to get under there and find the source tomorrow.

I don't think I can take many more drive days of the constant squeal!

Volt doc...
Is the module you referenced the ECM?

Mine also has the muffin fan on it but I've pretty much ruled out the front run bay as the source of the sound.

I'll know more tomorrow

John, no, it's basically a box of fuses and relays. I always thought it was what was called the Spartan Controller (or something like that) and the ECM is the finned unit outside. But now I'm not clear on the semantics.

I wonder if what you guys are seeing might be the box called the BCM (Body Control Module)? My understanding is that the BCM is the centralized interface between various controls/switches and the actual motors/relays/etc like electric seats, wipers, lights.
There are also TCM (Transmission Control Modules), ABS controller and probably even more.
This is only what I turned up with some internet searches. I do not claim to be any sort of actual knowledge about this stuff. But it doesn’t really help with the original issue So Caveat Emptor.

The ECM is back on the Cummins engine, get one wet driving in heavy rain and it will be a trip to Cummins. Don't ask me how I know. That was reason #1 I stopped driving in heavy rain.

Spartan calls it the “Spartan control module”.

Whoa boy!
It's good to see I'm not the only one that can't name the parts!....

Here's an update on my squeal
It turn out not to be from any of the modules at all!

After twisting myself into a shape that any gymnast would envy, I discovered the noise is from the dash A/C fan . Now to figure out how to access the fan itself. From the inside? From the generator bay?

It's gonna be tight either way!
