My Wife comes from a large family. Five sisters! Every five years or so they and their daughters all come to our house on the Lake for a long weekend. Usually we end up with a dozen women in the house. Waaaaay to much estrogen for me, I live in the MH during that time.
I am taking the coach if to the shop tomorrow for probably a new water pump. Kinda spendy? Right. But we've had the coach a long time and it goes with the deal.
I worked in the aviation industry for 35 years. I flew a lot. I got tired of flying especially with the new security.
We frankly do not care what's more economical RVing or flying. We take our pets with us. We pack whatever we like and have no need to unpack and repack every time we move. If we want to stay a little longer, we do. Flexibility.
So it's really a question of what are your needs and makes you happy. Nothing more.
Freedom!

My wife was complaining about the depreciation of our motor home as we just ordered a new Anthem and are selling our 2014 Dutch Star. If you look at it like this, every vacation you go on is a 100% depreciation, campground stays 100% depreciation, if you go the hotel route, cruise, or renting a place somewhere, 100% depreciation. So many things we do and enjoy are a 100% depreciation but we enjoy them and we have the memories which are priceless!! With our motor homes at least at the end of our use of them and we sell them they still have some value! Not bad for a hobby we enjoy, and all the fun we have had traveling in them. Would I like to lose less money on our motor home, YES. Would we give up all the fun travel times we have had, NO!! So we are going to enjoy the moments we have traveling the country in our motor home while we still can and try not to worry about the depreciation of cost!! HAVE FUN

I've always heard that, in the end, you only regret the things you didn't do - whether it's because of concern about the expense or any other reason. Looking back, I agree. No regrets for the time or money spent on things we enjoyed and the memories we have made. You won't go around again - the money won't go with you. Enjoy it while you can.

So, I got to thinking about this thread last night... It made me recall a conversation I had with a friend recently..
You see.. he has a friend who is a pilot for NetJets and they've had several conversations about "the program" and cost..
HOLY GUACAMOLE, talk about expensive!!!
So for all those who are try to "justify" our lifestyle to friends, the significant other, family or yourself.. I think we should be comparing ownership of an RV to that of a private jet..
It's basically the same.. can go when you want.. where you want and for as long as you want and fuel is expensive .. bout the only difference is, you can't park the jet next to your house.. ...

Some would suggest that there's quite a difference in transit time, too.
Take care,
Stu

Well, a 450’ motor yacht is not exactly economical, but unless you are a billionaire, few of us need to even imagine what that expense would be.
