Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70
We leave Fort Collins tomorrow for Tiger Run in Breckenridge. In checking with the Mountain Directory ... looks like we go through Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 - which says the height limit is 13'6" .... has anyone had a problem? I sure don't want our Traveler Dish to end up getting torn off the roof! Thanks, Lynn

You don't say how tall you are, if unsure go out and measure your highest point on your roof.
According to CDOT, the measured height is 13' 11" and by the way, there are height measurement alarms at the entrance of the tunnel and red lights will go off if your too tall.

As long as your dish is stowed it should not be the highest thing on the roof. If the trucks can make it so can you.

No problem Lynn, the Entegra fits fine, or you could take the hwy 6 bypass for a fun driving experience Beautiful view of the Continental Divide too, or take the toad from Breckenridge, fun drive.

Our rig is 13' 0"" according to the warning sticker and I wouldn't sweat a tunnel @ 13' 11". Our MotoSat dish isn't the highest thing on ours. It's the three heat pumps.

Thats a huge tunnel and we go through it all the time (we have a Travler and tall vent covers). I'm amazed it is marked at 13' 6" but you are right, its 13.92 ft total height. Now I'll be thinking about it when I go through next time and I'll be ducking my head.

Lynn's coach is 13 feet plus antennas at around 13'6".
If it is good for semis which are usually 13'6", then you should be good to go.
I-70 over the divide shows on my Rand McNally Motor Carriers Road Atlas that I-70 is a National STAA certified road.

We have been thru it several times and there is no issue. It is pretty long - be sure and have your lights on. Take it easy and you will be fine.

Larry
While in Colorado Springs, if you are beer drinking man, then give consideration to imbibing one of my favorite draft beers. The beer is named "Laughing Lab" beer (think - similar to an Irish red ale). It is brewed by Bristol Brewing which brews in a converted public school (the gymnasium holds all the brewing tanks). They have a brewery bar and a restaurant serving nice selection of food, and they have a patio area that is just about the best place to spend an evening in Colorado Springs in the fall and spring.... one of my favorite places for a little something different....

You'll notice the Eisenhower Tunnel (the original) is the west bound, and east bound traffic now passes through the Johnson Tunnel, named after one of our Governors (Edwin). It's often mistaken that it was named after President Johnson. Both are the exact same height.
Just some interesting info regarding egress, fire extinguishment, etc. It was recently provided with wet pipe sprinklers.
