Good picture Chuck. That’s the problem causing critter. I agree it should be sealed on all units to keep away from problems. I used a thick plastic bag and zip ties.

There are different kinds of silicone caulking. Double check to make sure the one you use will NOT corrode the wiring. I do not remember which one to use or not use but I had learned this lesson the hard way.

Good point, I am still a believer in Dielectric grease and tape. But as a roadside with heavy rain approaching, grab the RV Goop or silicone to get it weatherproofed, or at least seal it up with electrical tape.

I looked up what type of silicone can be used on electrical and it is a neutral cure style of silicone as used in automotive and marine.

The wrong type is acid cure style. The acid cure style may have a vinegar smell. GE II can be used, but not GE I. GE does not recommend their silicone for any electrical sealing but a lot of people use it.

Chuck, a humid climate is something we're not too familiar with out here in Arizona. Rain is a rather infrequent occurrence as well.

But I agree with you that sealing up the connector is a good idea.

These posts sever as good reminders for me. I did the plug on the 19 as soon as I brought it home, however it slipped my mind to seal the plug on the 21. That plug is reason number 47 "why I don't drive in heavy rain".

Yes, the problem might have been multiple interactions. I had already worked with a Entegra on the “telephone cable connection” on the bottom of the transfer switch and it may have been the problem but I can’t be sure. Wiggling it seemed to fix the problem once. It it came back again. A new cable is on the way.

I changed the amperage settings on the vegatouch as well so that could have been the problem as well. Anyway I think it’s working ok now and I have moved locations and now on 50 amp. I plugged it into 20 amp at the same location and all ok on 20 amp as well. I will replace the cable to be double sure.

Hey Chuck. Great idea but I have a question. Since I've not used dielectric grease before, do you take the connector apart and grease the contacts themselves or do you put the grease where the wires go into each half of the connector and in the middle where they connect? Thanks!

Both. I do just a light coat, using a toothpick, where the wires go into the plug, but not enough to stop the tape from sticking. Here in FL, being use to boats, I have humidly caused corrosion that most will not have a problem with.
