Engine Access hatch, rear bath, 2017 Anthem 44B

Two questions:

1. How do you open it, I have tried to pull it up, but it seems to go under the closet wall and it didn't budge.

2. Drove 8 hours today, outside temps were in the 80s. We had some rugs (the ones from the kitchen area) sitting on top of this hatch. Tonight (about 2 hours after arriving at our campground) parts of the hatch are to hot to hold your hand on it. Is that normal? Is it because we had the thick rugs on it?

Thanks

Van Sayler

On my totally different rig i have to remove the closet doors and the botton track. You may have to do the same.
And yes, the carpets could retain that much heat, especially if rubber backed.

Did you pull up and turn the rings? Yes the floor gets very hot.

Van, I don't know about your B model, but in our 44R I can turn the rings 90 degrees and pull the hatch. The first time was a bit stiff.

Our rear bar floor gets hot enough to burn your feet if we just pulled over.

Leaving the A/C vent open and the pocket door open has helped as much as possible. I would still expect the floor to be hot no matter what.

Our Phaeton used to be impossible to cool on a hot day after the engine was shut down.

This coach does quite well in the recovery from that heat.

On our 16 44B, as mentioned, you turn lifting rings 90 degrees, lift and pull cover forward away from closet. It pulls out from under the trim piece at bottom of closet.

Rear bath, 2015 Aspire 44B

Van,

Regarding the warm floors ours gets warm but not hot. With that said, are you giving the engine enough cool down time? These chassises are loaded all the time and you should give the engine/transmission a cool down period after use. This will keep the cooling system and fan flowing cooling fluid and air through the engine and the compartment and removing must of the heat out of the compartment.

I hope this helps.

As mentioned, pulling forward is the secret. Once it's up a bit it will slide forward and you can remove it. But the first time or two it will be hard to lift up because it sticks to the gasket so you'll have to pull hard. Once it's up, put a little talcum powder on the gasket so it'll be easier next time.

Also, did you know that the rear closet lifts up as well? That area exposed parts of the engine that you'll need to access for service - even moreso than the tile floor panel. The entire floor is hinged at the rear wall of the wardrobe. There are maybe half a dozen screws buried in the carpeting at the front edge. Remove those screws and the whole floor swings up against the back wall. You will probably need a stiff putty knife to get it started. Again, use some talc to make it easier for the next time.

Wow - Mark, that is something I never heard before. Do all models/years have the hinged floor? We have a 2015 Anthem 44B. I am going to have to check that out...

I would assume that the 2015s are hinged as well because you need to get in there to access the engine. The wardrobe housing didn't change in 2016 - only the rear cap that surrounds it.

Mine has a piano hinge. I prop it up with a telescoping wand. I have to remove built-in shoe rack before I can fold up the lid.
