Engine Block Heater

So we are parked in Oneonta NY and temps are expected to dip tonight. So I think I should use the engine block heater. Is all I need to do locate the plug in engine compartment and plug it into the receptacle that is next to it? Or is there a switch or something? Cannot find in manual. Help appreciated.

Yes and no.

Yes you can use the block heater by plugging it in. Remember to unplug it when done as it runs off the inverter circuit.

Another way of doing it is when you wake up turn on the switch called "Engine Preheat" on your Aqua Hot (assuming your burner is on). That will run a fifth Aqua Hot pump and circulate warm coolant thru the engine block. In a couple hours the engine should be warm.

Either way works.

you have to make sure the two valves are open, one on top and one on bottom of the motor

Maybe I should unplug and use the engine preheat? I assume I should not leave plugged in if valves are not open?

Hello Bill, the valves mentioned are for the Aqua hot loop.........you can just plug in the electric block heater in and turn it on since you have shore power. The engine pre heat/aqua hot loop have shut off valves on the loop and would require you to run the AH all night..........maybe you are though? Didn't Entegra only put the block heater through the inverter years ago, then quit this inverter supply method to the block heater?
Going to get down right cold up here tonight.........5 above!

Ok. So if using the block heater I just plug in. Problem for tomorrow is the rear engine door now will not open so I wont be able to unplug. Don't know if advisable to drive with it plugged in tomorrow. I assume not. Called CS . Waiting on a call back.

Our 13 Aspire started no problem a few years ago when we headed to Florida. Temp was -6. No problem at all. It was very windy also. I did have the batteries disconnected just turnrd the cutoff switch and had instant power in the coach. No other way for us as our storage facility does not offer power. No issues in the cold with the 16 Anthem either.

Thar a bummer Bill
I would have to think that there is a 120v breaker in the panel for that outlet the block heater plugs into.........if so , you would be able to shut it off using the breaker. Take a look at your breaker panel and see if you can see one labeled "block heater"

Thanks. I reached Spartan after hours service and they tell me I am OK to drive with it plugged in with no worries. So if CS can't tell me a way to get it open at least I don't have to worry about it.
