Entegra Esteem 27U - Loading Guideline for Cubbies and Tanks

Greetings,

I took some measurements today and then did some math. The end result is a guide as to which axles get loaded and by how much when "stuff" is added to the various cubbies and when gallons of liquids are added to their respective tanks.

I'm attaching the spreadsheet that I used to come up with the loadings. The last two columns are the result. It shows how many pounds are added to (or actually subtracted from) the loads on the two axles for each pound that is added at that location. When you load behind the rear axle you actually reduce the load slightly on the front axle while significantly increasing the load on the rear axle, and vice versa. Notice that adding one pound in the driver's side rear cubby adds 1.7 pounds to the rear axle while actually reducing the load on the front axle by .7 pounds.

NOTE: The distances on the chart are all IN FRONT OF, the two axles. In many cases that results in a negative number for those distances.

On most class "B" and class "C" motorhomes, and quite a few class "A" motorhomes it is very easy to overload axles as goods and liquid are loaded into the coach.

Take care all, and happy RV'ing!

Jim, impressive, I see you put a lot of work into this. Might be a good idea to also share it in Jayco forum where it would be useful to even more people with similar models. I used to have to think about weight and balance with my airplane but with my Anthem I would have to try very hard to overload. [emoji5]

I need to make some corrections! I see that my equations for the right-most two columns are in trouble for the portion of the coach that is between the two axles. The numbers aft of the rear axle appear to be ok. I'll re-do it and re-post it.

Also, I understand about aircraft weight and balance. We flew an S-35 Bonanza for a lot of years, and they might have been one of the worst for being able to be loaded out of the envelope. And when you "went there", it became an interesting airplane to fly. The two biggest issues were that it was already easy to load it tail heavy, and that as you burned fuel, the CG moved aft, even more. So you could take off completely within the envelope and then four hours later land with an airplane that was interesting to control.

I've corrected my spreadsheet and added several columns, as well. The messages above are still valid but the spreadsheet needed to be replaced. Hopefully the attached is more accurate and easier to understand.
