Entry Step quit working while retracted

I have a 2016 Anthem 44B. My entry steps quit working and are in the retracted position. Customer Service told me to remove the clevis pin in the linkage to disconnect the step. Problem is the cotter pin is not accessible. Had they installed the clevis pin in the opposite direction, the cotter pin could be easily removed. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Assuming you are talking about your outside steps, you would be better served to get under the coach trace the step controller wires and be sure they are all pushed together firmly. There have been several instances where the connections were the problems.

The steps get a lot of dirt from traveling. Lube all of the pivot point with a good spray lube and see if you can free the steps up. Check the plugs as DG mentioned, also the brass contact points at the lower front of the door frame. Can you feel the motor trying to run when someone opens the door for you? If not, a light tap with a hammer might get a stuck motor freed up. Be careful with fingers if the steps should start working.

Can you access the Clevis pin and cut it with a grinder? Then replace.

Well that was fun! The motor was bad. I ended up having to remove the motor to release the steps. Sounds easy enough you say? With the steps stuck in the retracted position the rear bolt on the motor was a trouble maker. With limited access it took a little time. Once the steps released everything was easy. If the clevis pin that connects the linkage to the step had been installed with the cotter pin forward for easy access, releasing the steps in the retracted position would have been simple. I highly recommend checking this on your step linkage.
