Belle the 50 lbs Chocolate lab of 14 years lays between the driver and passenger seat on a lite bed and then gets up every so often and looks out the windshield and barks at the strangest of things then goes back to sleep. She will move close to my right hand and nudge to be petted every once in a while.

The new pup comes home next week so we will see how that works out, should be interesting!!!

We have two 15 year old Springer Spaniel mix furballs. One has to be lifted on the couch where he sleeps peacefully for the duration. The other one would love to park himself just left of my feet. We've had to put up a barricade to keep him out. So he pretty much paces from there to the step cover when Phyllis doesn't give in and bring him in her lap.

BTW both dogs have trouble with the steps so we found a set of steps by Pet Loader on Amazon that worked fantastic on our last trip.

These steps from RV-Co have really helped our 12yr old dog.

I like to try a safety harnass for our rottie. Where are these harness that would work in our coaches?

Very nice! How much weight do they support? Ours are only rated at 150 so we have to scoot them over for us to go up or down.

Depends how you configure the steps. You can build a full on deck or have the normal 3-5 Steps. Not a great answer, but no issue with me, my wife and 2 50+lb dogs on it all at the same time.

60 plus pounder Benji rides on the Dash mostly for a close view out the window. We get lots of looks. My preference for him is on the floor between us.

We don’t have a dog but our cat rides anywhere she wants. On wife’s lap, on couch, on floor, under table, etc.... She is not crazy about the sound of the engine. She tends to stay out of the back of the coach when we are on the road.

Sometimes she lays up in the front windshield on passengers side when we are parked but she does not like that area when we are moving.

We always make sure we have our eyes on the cat when we move a slide in or out. We have a spot next to the bed that we fully block with a large pillow when our slides are not extended because she could get down in the spot if she wanted to when our bed slide is in.

We keep our cat carrier in the basement storage. Never know if we would need to take the cat to a vet when on the road.

beware stepwell

Friends of ours with SOB have a medium sized mutt. His customary place was in the step well sleeping or looking out the lower window they have in the door. Luckily he was up and roaming around when they blew a right front tire. The carcass of the tire shredded and totally destroyed the step well leaving a large open hole where the steps were. They were certain it would have done in their dog if he had been there. Very unlikely I know but....?

Our two yorkies MUST be on mom's lap or beside her on the seat. Not the safest place either for reasons mentioned but the yapping protest trying to get them to ride elsewhere is unbearable

75lb Lab. Usually stays back behind us while driving. She slowly moves up between us to let me know she is ready for a break but did buy a harness and seat belt tether but have not used it as yet. Given our dogs size and weight, I would not use the seat belt tether by itself.

Murray- my tether is a seat belt style that connects to one of the belts (under the couch).Click image for larger version

To be accurate, the four leggers in our coach are also cats and they have their places back in the kitchen and dinette areas. It seems their favorite places change every time we travel..... sometimes the ledge behind the induction cooktop and sink is impossible to resist, and sometimes strategically positioned exactly under one of the dinette chairs or sprawled all over the narrow floor of the kitchen. They come forward only to indicate that they are hungry and think its time to stop for lunch.

We originally assumed that we would have them caged in the coach at all times moving, but our male cat is sort of big guy and it just seemed to be a big pain in the butt to be moving the cages in and out all the time, so I guess that the cats take the same risk that Dee and I do in an accident. Of course, my plan is not to ever have an accident, but you never know.

And Hal is a smart man. Yes, the "B" floor plan (and probably all the others) are a definite death trap for any small animal if you don't exercise extreme care with animals when you are moving slides in and out. .... More than a couple of careless owners have crushed their cats or small dogs who have snuck under the bed through that hole exposed when the bed slide is "IN". We always have the sliding door between the mid-bath and the bedroom area firmly locked any time we move slides..... and the DW's job when moving slides is simply to have her eyes or arms around each cat while that movement is accomplished. Never assume you know where the animal is... New coach owners with pets..... BE VERY AWARE of this problem.

Gary

we use one similar to this for our 50lb Springer Spaniel. The rear hook allows attaching to the couch seatbelt with a leash.

We have three dogs - all little guys. I think the heaviest might be close to 12 lbs. They all wear harnesses similar to the one used by Pixguy but they ride up front. Two are on an adjustable length double leash, the third is on a 2’ training leash. All are heavy duty 1” leashes and all three are hooked into the passenger’s seat belt. The adjustable leashes are short enough that they cannot get under the driver’s feet but long enough to make it to the passenger’s lap. The little guy on the training leash rides in the passenger seat in one of our laps. We keep a large foam bed between the seats and the two older dogs alternate between the passenger’s lap and the bed.
