What we don't like is the amount of space lost behind it. One of the mods I am thinking about is to create a drawer with the fireplace as the drawer front. This would give some additional storage behind while at the same time keeping the ambiance and heating.
We've just removed our fireplace and it is a totally self contained "box" , even has built in handles that plugs into a dedicated 20 amp outlet. It appears putting it on a slide would be relatively easy thus gaining some storage behind it.

I don't see that anyone answered this part of the OP. "How long does it take the aqua-hot to warm up the MH?" So from cold floors to toasty, what can be expected for the AH system?

Our A came with a fireplace but in our modification it's been removed. If we ever get another coach we'll pas on a firepace ! As full timers it's all about useful space not wasteful space.

As with everything in the RV world it's all anout compromise and what works best for each of us in our own situation !
True
Any 1500 watt portable 120VAC electric space heater will provide just as
much heat as an electric fireplace.

The floors will START to warm at about the 2 hour time period HOWEVER it is 20-24 hours for the " toasty effect ". Floor heat ( zone 2 ) should be set 6-10 degrees higher then zones 1 & 3.
The past 2 weeks we have been in 50's for daytime highs and upper 30's to low 40's at night. We have zone 2 set at 78 and zone 3 at 64 and zone 1 at 66. The coach is very comfy and zone 3 has not run and zone 1 comes on early AM for 1 or 2 cycles before sun takes over.
Keep in mind the zone 1 sensor is high on the wall above passenger seat while the zone 2 sensor is low on the floor near the 1/2 bath door.

Be aware that if you run the floor heat continuously, it will get too warm inside the coach unless the daytime temperatures are cool. For that reason, I suggest you not use the floor heat for storage in moderate weather, but rather use the floor blowers (zones 1 and 3). These zones will heat rapidly and run only when needed to maintain temperature. Using these zones. the coach will cool down fairly rapidly if the temperature rises to thermostat shutoff temperature, unlike the zone 2 floor heat which continues to heat the coach for a long while even when shut off.

The basement heat is really not need at all until outside temp reaches the low 20's (F) or less, as the residual heat in the basement from the AH unit and distribution lines will easily prevent freezing unless the outside temp is well below freezing.

Cold front came through last night. Found inside the coach to be cool/chilly. Ran the fireplace with heat for a bit to take the chill off rather than running the AH to heat the place. Turned the fireplace off when we went to bed and the coach cooled off for a really good sleep.

Fireplace for us and would not have a coach without one. For us, it's a must have.
