For owners of a "W" Floorplan

We just took delivery of a new 2019 44W Anthem. One reason for choosing the W floorplan was the pantry. While it is not as wide as the pantry we had on our 2014 B, it is noticeably deeper. Our question is, has anyone done anything to make it easier to get things that are all the way in the back of the pantry?

We have only had the coach for about a week, but so far we are really liking it; so much different than our 2014 and differences we really like and think we will enjoy. Does anyone have any general comments about the W and any changes they have made inside?

As always, thanks for any help/comments you are willing to share.

Regards,

Can't help.... I dont own a "W". But on our Anthem (B), Entegra had chrome slide trays installed in each of the cabinets above the sink. We found them very useful. However, it appears that a lot of Entegra owners thought they sacrificed too much cabinet space and complained so they took them out of the lower cabinets (??!!?? where they are just as needed as the upper if you are the height of many women), but my DW's view was that she could not access the stuff in either the upper or lower cabinets without the slides in there and their removal was a huge problem for her, for the same reason.... she could get to nothing at the back of those cabinets without the slide installed and they sit higher so much worse to get to. So when we ordered our new 19 Cornerstone, we asked Entegra to put slides in all the cabinets above the kitchen sink. We haven't seen the coach yet, but hope they are there when it arrives.

Maybe you need to think of something similar with the pantry. We ordered the "B" in part because it also has a big pantry and Dee cooks a lot so our pantry is full of stuff in our 15 Anthem. However, we just knew where standard stuff was stored and knew to look on that shelf for soup or whatever. Since the pantry is not high, it was easy to access.

On my 2017 W the pantrys are side by side and pull out so everything is accessible, but I'm sure you can get more in yours.

Installed slides in the pantry on our 5er. The coach has slides in some cabinets and not in others. All will have a slide shortly in some form or other.

I haven't done it myself but have seen a couple of coaches that had slides installed for the pantry. One used under mount slides the other was regular side mount slides.
I wish Entegra would build this in, it would make the pantry so much more useful. I think there's more square inches on the W vs the B but definitely more accessible on the B.

Like others have said, that is one of the mods I have set to do for the new CS is slides on the pantry shelves. I re-did the panty with no room on the RBQ, the B should be a piece of cake. I looked at the W floor plan, It looks like adding slides to the shelves should be fairly easy. Get the heaviest ones that will fit, can goods get heavy real quick.

Chuck - I had planned to do that in our B also - but discovered that the doors are several inches narrower than the shelves - on each size. I would have lost way too much cabinet space if I had added pull outs in the pantry.

Thanks for that head up Linda. My neighbor, also an RV'er is a retired Master Carpenter and cabinet maker. If anyone can figure it out he can. I help him with his MH and he helps me with my woodworking projects. He is the one that cut my knuckle knocker bedroom valances down that look 10X better than factory. Knowing him, he will move door or whatever it takes. I'll let you know what he comes up with.

Here’s a pantry mod I did to our “B”.

I left the center shelve stationary (no slide out), as you stated you can’t make the pull-outs the full width of the factory shelve because the pantry doors aren’t wide enough, but the space that’s left between the slide out and pantry wall is still usable for stationary items that aren’t used that often! We're adding pull out shelves in our W. Our friend is building them for us. We absolutely will lose space but like you said, the shelves are deep, so we'll gain that room and we think we'll have plenty of pantry space. Attached are pictures of the pull-out attached to one of the shelves. Click image for larger version

Mike you made a good point for those that are not handy, lots of options that do not include RV dealers. Cabinet shops in most cases can do a much better job than most RV dealers...they will come to you just like they do in a S&B and usually much cheaper.

Or there is always the friend that takes pride in his work to help a friend. Your friend is doing a nice job. Our remodeling contractor also has a small cabinet shop in his garage and could do a small project like shelves with no problem. He changed some of the cabinets in our bathroom remodel and they looked factory.

As a side note, I should mention that each drawer is going to cost me $105 (the long slides were nearly $40 each). All but $20 of that is for the materials. The extra $20 is what my friend is charging for his time and he will install them to ensure that the shelf does not move when fully loaded and fully extended. This is very cheap based on what I could find prebuilt on-line but is still costly when you add up all 6 drawers.
A challenge with these drawers is that the shelves in the pantry are hollow. So securing the rails took a little creativity. Which is also why we went with side rails, that and because there is room for the side rails and we could easily find rails long enough for the opening. Also we're using red cedar for the 2x2 rails as it is a little bit lighter than hemlock/fir (not sure about pine). The body is made from birch plywood.
In the picture you can see how much space will be lost because of the shelf but the width is only 1/4 inch narrower than the opening. We also added the pin locks on the front so the shelf wouldn't slide open when going around a corner, but that addition takes very little away from the depth.
I was worried about the added weight but in the grand scheme of things, wife's happiness wins out.
I'll post pictures when they are installed.
