For the Fly Fishers

There have been several threads about fly fishing while on RV trips. We are in Caldwell, ID, today I went fishing on the Owyhee River near Nyssa, OR. Caught a lot of Brown trout from 10-16” and one at 25”. The guides largest of the year!

He's a beauty! Great job! Were you wading or floating?

We were wading.

Caught him on a #20 mayfly nymph fished below a wooly bugger.

Nice one. I'll be doing that soon with any kind of luck and my wife doesn't kill me first (she won't I'm the driver).

On our way to Missouri Headwaters SP tomorrow. They only have 2 sites big enough for us, so I hope we can sneak in...no rez-first come first served. If we can't get in then its straight to Stoneridge.

Tandem nymph! That's how I fish more often than not. Jon, my brother, is more a dry fly guy!

I fished in Oregon while staying in Idaho. 1-day non-resident fishing license was $32.50. Idaho is $22.95 for 1 day and $7/day more for up to a week. My son just bought me an Idaho annual non-resident license ($110) for my birthday in an attempt to bribe me to come back a lot. He also got his fly fishing guide buddy to promise to take me to Silver Creek, Snake River and Henry’s Fork (Ford?). My son lives on the Boise River so I can toss some flies while he and his Mom catch up on “stuff” and not miss much.

Vance, what a nice present, but I thought you lived with your son, wink, wink.
What a great opportunity for the summer.

Back in 1997, I had the opportunity to spend multiple days at the Henry’s Fork Lodge which, as the name suggests, is located on the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River, about 45 minutes west of Yellowstone National Park.

One of the highlights was meeting the owner/founder of the lodge, Nelson Ishiyama. Great guy, a great facility, and a stunningly beautiful part of the country.

The first photo below was taken from the back porch of the lodge during that visit. The other two were taken more recently, when Amy & I visited the area.

More info on the lodge and some interesting reading here:
