From 4 down to trailer

Since our little problem with the tow bar, Ginny and I have decided to go ahead and buy a trailer to tow behind the Entegra. We settled on a aluminum flat bed 22 foot hydraulic trailer. It's made by H&H and it's their "Speed Loader" style. We're going with the 14k with the hydraulic tongue jack. With this trailer no ramps are needed and it's pretty hassle free to load. Ginny can buy any suv she wants as long as it has a hitch because once unloaded, her suv will park the trailer.

I realize there's going to be some hassles but it's a trade off for being able to haul any car or truck, as long as I stay under 15,000 pounds. I'll be able to back up and I feel better about wearing out a $10,000 trailer rather than a $70,000 truck. I'll just re-pack the wheel bearings once a year and keep it rolling.

If this doesn't work, I'll just keep the trailer for my skid steer or let my sons have it. There's always someone in the family buying a classic car anyway and a good car hauler will be a treat.

Dave

I'll be very interested in your opinion on whether this is a good or bad move a year from now. Good luck

Ginny and I took some time to analyze how much we really use a "toad" when we travel. We want options because we realized that there have been many trips where we've pulled our truck several thousand miles and not used it. So on some trips we'll just rent a car when we reach our destination if we're going to stay in one spot for a while. We can rent a decent car for $100 a week. If we're going to skip around a bunch we'll take our trailer.

in the near future we're also going to buy some electric bikes to run around with too. We're only rolling the dice on 10k and that's not really a big deal, just another adventure.

You can always sell it, if it doesn't fit the bill.

Nothing ventured nothing gained...we tried it for a few years. In the end we went back to flat towing. It really depends on where you are camping. Some resorts really make it tough.

Dave,
Nice looking trailer, probably has electric brakes if so Spartan has provided all the required wiring from the 7 pin RV plug to the wiring behind the left side dash.
All you need to do is wire in the brake controller.
Enjoy the trailer, sounds like it’s been a journey for you.

Like the trailer approach a lot, and the trailer will find many uses around the home base.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but you can also back up when you use the trailer versus four down?
