Front shade problem

We’ve just experienced the dreaded “the front driver’s side motorized shade won’t come up” as we’re trying to leave our campsite this morning. Yesterday our right side sun shade fell off when we hit a big rut in the road. We fixed that, hot to our campsite last night, lowered the privacy shades, and this morning only the passenger side comes up. Any ideas? If we can’t fix it, any suggestions on how to safely roll it up and secure it for our drive today?

These things are a royal PITA 🤪.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Stuart

did you try resetting the power switch by the door? try that twice and see what happens. I did have the same problem several years ago when the motor needed replaced. I got a small piece of wire and after loosening the screws, feed the wire under the shade housing. Then I made a loop on both ends so I could hook a small bungee cord. I rolled the shade and then bunged it up.

Rolling it up from the bottom up then wire tie or bungee around the roller....it will get you to where you need to go until the motor can be replaced.

I tried holding the button in for 4 seconds but now the passenger side shade is going too far and then starts going back up 🤪. The driver’s side is not budging. I’m afraid the motor on that one is dead. I guess it’s time to manually roll it up and get on the road. We’ll try and figure out a way to safely roll it up and secure it.

Fold it up and secure it on both sides with medium size binder clips. that is what we did when our motor went until getting it fixed.

We’re figuring out how to secure it now. This has always been one of my fears. We’ve made it almost 10 years without it happening. I guess our time ran out

on the bright side, it sounds like you got your money's worth out of that motor. Mine were replaced after 2 years

Wow! 2 years is not good. Hopefully your new motors are doing better. The convenience of the motor system is nice, but manual control is apparently more reliable. Fortunately my wife Susie took care of securing it - and did a fantastic job!

An alternative to rolling up the shade is to just take it down. It's held in place by 4 clips to the overhead. Just use a large screwdriver to push on the long tab end of the clip to release the shade. Unplug the wires first though. You can usually pull a bit out of the hole in the wall or overhead to get some slack. Snip them if necessary and put spade connectors back on when you reassemble.
