Frozen french fries

What is the secret making them in this Whirlpool Convection Oven? Last batch were the worst.

Same unit in my coach and we always enjoy our fries. First of all, the fries call for 450 but, convection oven only goes to 425. Select manual convection then 425 for temperature and allow for pre-heat to finish. You can put cook time in at that time and I did find it easier to do now. Fries call for 15-20 minutes for a half bag. It never will cook them in that amount of time. Usually select 30 minutes cook time and keep an eye on them at 25 minutes and beyond. You can open the door to check on the fries or also add more time. Use the rack and a cookie sheet. It will almost always take the full 30 minutes.

Hopefully this helps you enjoy your French Fries.

Thanks, we neglected to pre-heat

Spraying the fries with Pam spray also helps crisp them.

Look for McCain 5 minute fries. Just discovered these and they cook up better than any other brand.

You could get a countertop air fryer. I have a gas oven but i use an air fryer at home for a lot of things including frozen French fries.

To us, an air fryer french fries takes like warm and hard sawdust.... its the grease that give the fries the taste of a french fry. But T.E.T.O. The microwave is not a lot better !!

That’s why McDonalds fries don’t taste like they used to, long ago - different shortening. No more animal fat. Not worth eating since some time back.

We prefer tater tots from Trader Joe’s, but they come out best with the convection fan running, and at a little higher temp than the bag says. We like a little crispiness on the outside.

I’ve got to give them a try in the convection microwave, which is the only oven in the van. All I’ve ever used that microwave for is warming soup or cold coffee so far; time to break out the manual I guess.

I'm a fan of air-frying frozen FF...we use a mid-size Cosori in the coach and a large in the house. Try a tablespoon of oil in the bottom tray and use the fast food version from your store's freezer. The crispy crinkle cut or the fast food skinny fry's work well, done in 8 minutes from frozen (plus 5 minute pre-heat).

Free recipe for tasty Frozen French fries in the Air fryer. Put frozen fries in a gallon zip lock baggie. Add 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of Olive oil. Add your seasonings like salt if desired. Shake bag to coat fries. Empty bag into fryer basket. Cook according to your Air Fryer’s instructions. Remember to shake the basket midway through if your instructions say so.

I have a heart condition so I don’t add salt. I use Mrs Dash. Generally I use OreIda frozen crinkles. They have great flavor and are crispy. YMMV.

Another fan of the air fryer while cooking outside here.
Those TJ tater tots air fried with a tsp of oil are addicting.
So are the spring rolls...
