Fuel Rail recall fix

Any one had this done. How extensive is it, Is it done thru the rear on in the rear closet access?
I guess I need to get it done but was curious how long and what access is needed.

Just had it done last week when they also replaced my DEF Head. Took them about 3 hours to complete the recall and yes did have to access thru the rear bathroom floor l.

We had it done as well. Cummins shop said it would take just a few minutes. Then they found out that they could not access the lines through the engine compartment and had to go through the bathroom floor. Their few minutes became four hours.

Good luck to those who found a Cummins shop that answers their phone or responds to multiple voice mails. We tried Ocala, where we are now and Elkhart where we will be in October. No luck here!

Quick thought about the Cummins recall. When we were at Cummins last week we thought that would be a good opportunity to get the recall done. And, they could have done it. But, their recommendation was that if you don't smell diesel wait to have it done. The reason is that there have been instance (not many, but some) where the whole fuel rail needed to be replaced. And, therein lies the reason to wait. Fuel rails are on back order and the Cummins dealer we were at said the last they heard they don't expect to get fuel rails they have on back order until the end of October. Again, they said it would be highly unlikely that they would need a new fuel rail, but if we happened to be one of those cases that did require a fuel rail we could be down for 6-8 weeks while the back orders started to get delivered. So, they strongly recommended that if we didn't smell diesel to wait. Just thought you might like to know.

Regards,

Had the same issue calling Cummins and getting someone to answer the phone. Then figured out to call the parts vice service. They always answer. Now that you are talking to a human they usually hunt the service folks down. Go for my fuel rail check tomorrow. If they don’t have replacement on hand, won’t have it done. Hasn’t leaked in 50000 miles so think I might be good.

I think that the issue is that they don't just do a visual inspection. They remove some caps and check the seal and threads to see if yours is one that might fail. At that point, their lawyers are not going to allow them to put it back together if it falls into the "might fail" category. The replacement is a different design and that's what is backordered. Remember, you are talking about pressures that can easily exceed 6000psi.

When Cummins issues a major recall that effect all models of the engines in trucks or MH the service centers are buried. Throw in the DEF heads and the problem doubles. I have always been able to get though to Cummin Ft Myers for the past 20 years, but not lately. Too many DEF heads, not just on MH's and now recalls along with normal maintenance.

Lots of reading in this forum will give that information. 2017 coaches are affected.
