Fuel Spilling at Pump

New to us 15CS

I have noticed that when fueling up, the pump typically spills fuel out when I start to fill. Not always but typical. I fill up on the drivers side. The only way to limit spillage is to pump slowly.

Almost seems like air is not getting out to allow fuel to enter the tank.

I had thought of possibly opening gas cap on the passenger side to allow in more air, but don’t want fuel coming out on that side.

Any experiences or ideas?

Thanks all!

If you open the the cap and leave it open while filling no spills and it fills faster. The hose running to the tank is rather long and pressure builds up quickly. When you open the other fuel door it takes the pressure off. I know if I do not open the other cap, the hose will keep shutting off or worse spilling back.

Keep in mind it will come out the other if not monitored carefully and knowing how much to expect going in. Pump will not stop automatically

Check that there is not a dip in the hose going to the tank.

That's what I do. Works fine that way. The plumbing on these tanks leaves a bit to be desired

Keep in mind there’s a big difference starting in 2020. Entegra moved the fuel fill up higher in 2020 and while it is much easier to get by with removing the passenger side cap on 2020 and on, it can quickly get you into trouble with years prior to 2020. There’s been more than one that’s tried it and had fuel running under the bus as a first indication of being full.

Definitely be careful opening the fuel door on opposite side for venting purposes. When auto cutoff on the pump kicks in it can/will spit fuel out the side that is being used for venting.

Ya, a good way to have a BIG fuel spill!

Verify that both fill and vent lines go smoothly downhill from side of coach to tank-- NO DRIP LOOP/DIP!

You will learn but pumping slowly is the only way you will get fuel in consistently and it is not capable for holding 150 gallons. The filler goes into the side of the 150 gallon tank on all models before 2020 so filling it to capacity is actually not possible. The coach is also sensitive to off angle when fueling. Patience is definitely a virtue when fueling.

When filling at a truck stop pump with high volume I do not put the nozzle all the way into the filler tube this allows air to escape. It sometimes requires that I need to stand there and hold the nozzle but avoids a mess. I also do not open the nozzle to the max. Filling at a regular gas station pump doesn't always cause the problem. In both cases I have experienced splash back when the nozzle trips. This not a Entegra only problem I had the same kind of issue with our 2006 Winnebago Journey. The whole thing with opening the filler on the other side is just too dangerous and could be illegal. You also could be held responsible for the spill clean up by the establishment if they were on the ball.

I would never open the passenger side fuel fill. When fueling my 15 Anthem, I did that once thinking I was being "cute" and really filling fast, and discovered the first time I did it, I pumped a bunch of diesel out the passenger side open fuel cap .... never again! I only fuel from the driver side fuel fill cap.

Now, I would think that the newer coaches with the higher fuel fill height might have a lower tendency to do that.... I don't know as I have never filled a coach newer than my '19.

Still, with the very high volume truck fill nozzles, I can't imagine how much quicker I really need to fill the tank than I do right now.... Remember I used to never use the truck stops so fueled at the station across the street which was painfully slllooooooowwwwww !!!!Single nozzle driver-side filling is a piece of cake in comparison!!!

Try opening the fill gas cap on both sides of the coach.
