Generator / Aqua-Hot Exhaust Heat

File this under stupid questions if you will, but what if anything do you do to ensure that dry vegetation isn't impacted by either of these hot exhaust sources? Running the generator at a Harvest Host location this summer clearly created some singeing ...

Place a pan of water where the exhaust hits the ground.

Later...

I carry the foil pans from the Dollar Store for just those type of situations. Fill with water, throw away when finished if not reusable.

Either a pan with water in it, or some non-flammable cushion or cloth. The negative of the cloth is that if it is left in place a long time, it will kill all the grass and vegetation under it.

However both my genny and AquaHot exhausts are not exhausting straight down, but rather at about a 45 degree angle. I have found that if you are not parked in dry, tall grass or dried vegetation, then the 45 degree angle is sufficient to not direct enough straight down to the ground and I have never had a problem with ignition of the dry grass. I make sure the grass is clipped and cut off just above the ground.

The foil pan is a good idea. I'll have to try that

Generator will leave burnt spots but no flames. Oasis seems much cooler and no burn spots.

Another thing you could do would be to buy a couple of exhaust pipe extensions of the proper diameter with perhaps a 30 to 45 degree curve that you could easily slip on and off as needed, directing the exhaust gases upward, when needed.

The tin-pan idea doesn't sound too bad, either, as long as it is large enough to protect the whole impacted area. Losing a coach to a self-induced grass fire would be horrific in so many ways!!!

Also, be sure not to lay out your sewer hose where the hot exhaust can hit it. That would not be good, either.

Check this out. It is a very inexpensive welding blanket on Amazon. One foot by two feet for $15. Three foot square for $35. Would be a super good thing to have in your D/S storage bay. Maybe a set of horseshoes you could use to weight it down if needed, in a windy situation.

One of the reasons I’m not crazy about the AH exhaust as mentioned, too close to the waste hose…but I’ve found 2’x3’ aluminum pans at Ace ( sure you can get them elsewhere). They are for setting under your car when changing oil or in general to catch drips. They nest so can be stored most anywhere.

Exactly. I haven't melted the stinky slinky but have melted a few of the legs on its support rail. Always see my sewer hose going out and around now.

Thank you all for your feedback. I'm leaning toward the 2' x 3' pans and maybe a rock or two as a very practical, low impact kind of solution ...

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Fill them 1/2 way with water. We do this for the Aqua Hot and for the generator exhaust when we are parked on grass so that it doesn’t discolor the grass or in the event of VERY dry grass cause a situation where there could be a fire.

We use small disposable aluminum foil pans with water as well. After a couple of close calls we learned that trick at a rally.

Not at every site just where grass is tall or dry.

I keep all hoses and cables away from the aquahot exhaust as well.

We just put a pan under the generator exhaust if we don’t have power like last year at the Tampa show. I have no proof but think if running a heavy load the generator exhaust gets even hotter than the aquahot.
