Generator start

I should know this, but does the generator use the house batteries or chassis batteries to start?

House batteries. Using the battery boost switch will allow it to use both.
Later...

Yes, I believe on all Entegra coaches, the genny fires from the house battery bank.

House battery to start the generator is another reason to set your auto generator start at a voltage level that still leaves power to start the generator from those house batteries.

I like my auto generator start voltage on the high side. Sure the generator will have to kick on a little more often but that way I have plenty of house battery left to start the generator. And it keeps the batteries from being discharged as deeply.

I have played around with the setting from 11.8 to 12V. Especially when not having any quiet hour restrictions. I am not sure how many volts the generator really needs from the house batteries to start.

My AGS is always set to 12.1 volts. Never a problem with starting and lots of days boondocking in BLM land during Quartzsite.

To me, 11.8 is waaaaaaaaaay too low from reliable starting.

Thanks Gary,

I just remote connected into my Vegatouch and checked. I am set to 12.2V.
I knew I was conservative, I just had my range wrong. I have been playing around in the 12.1 to 12.3 range. My hope is to not have the generator run soon after it stops but not to stress my batteries.

You would be fine at 12.0-12.1v for the AGS auto start. The house bank is about 50% discharged depending on the battery load at that time.
