Generator start up exhaust smoke

Lately, upon startup my Gen is emitting light gray smoke for a few seconds. Normal?

Thanks

It can be, and that occurs intermittently on my coach. If it is really dense, that is not a good sign. If its a little and it is intermittent, then I dont think it is usually a big deal. Mine is a blue puff when the engine first fires like it is residual oil in the cylinder. If it continues while its running, that suggests oil somehow getting into the cylinders or a bad mixture of fuel and oxygen when burning.

Bill mine has been doing that from the get-go. Obviously I don't always see it when it fires up, but the times I do it's very brief if at all.

Same!

I've read it could be a glow plug failing, but my gen starts pretty quick, so I'm not worrying about it.

A cold start from a diesel engine that lacks any emission control system will almost always start dirty but should clear up within a few seconds as the engine warms up. Even more evident in cold weather.
