Yes I get them, but not being a truck, I don't stop.
I figure if they really meant me, they would chase me down.

Read the sign if it says trucks or commercial vehicles you are ok to pass Maryland has changed some of the scales signs to say vehicles over ##### and I passed one of them and got pulled over for passing the scale. The trooper did not give me a ticket for passing the scale but mad me go back to the scale to get weighed. He took the info off the sticker inside the door to see if I was overweight. So I was ok but wasted about 1 1/2 hours of time.

If I can get a "free' weigh, I take advantage of it. Seriously, I have a scale right where I get on I-75 to leave. I pull in the parking lot on my way out of town and asked to be weighed. They have me pull on the scale, do a 3 axle plus toad weigh, then I go back inside for a printout. They have told me many times, they wish more RV'ers were that safe. We helped pay for the scales with the fuel tax se pay and they don't mind at all. Even had one take his break and come out to look at the MH.
If the scale is busy, I let it slide, but that is rare. I always have the current weight for my coach.

The OP was talking specifically about I-95 in Georga. They have weigh in motion, roadway scales for commercial traffic. The signs tell trucks to use right lane.
I have see the sign come on for someone to pull in but I can't say for sure it's for me.
I'm not in a truck so I drive on.

Yes, and they also have a pull around lanes that you can park and asked to get weighted. Almost all scales have the DOT computerized pull through scales. Large MH get scanned by size and flashed to pull in BUT if the sign is given to an RV'er why not take advantage of it for a current weigh of your coach? Or you could go up the road to the CAT scales and pay $10., drivers choice.

I think I mentioned this in another thread of a similar topic; I noticed this year in particular, the weigh signs are more ambiguous. WHY? All Vehicles, All Trucks, the list is endless. Clearly state who needs to stop, until then I won’t.
Like many coaches of my vintage, we are probably at/near/over axle limit on the front end. I might add, it is usually not from having too much weight up front or moving cargo around. So what happens next?

DOT does not care about RV axles weight. They don't know if your coach has a 17 or 20, 000 lb axle. Overloaded highway trucks doing damage to federal Highways, yes. When I drove the fine was 5 cent a pound for being overloaded I don't know what it is now, but none of our coaches exceed that limit unless we are hauling lead.
The reason for CAT scales at Truck stops are two fold. You will see drivers sliding the trailers on the 5th wheel trying to even out the weight, then re-weigh. If not, they will be on the 2 lane and 4 lanes dodging the scales.

What's the advantage of a free weight, if I'm overweight and have to pay $100 per pound ?
I'll go with the $10 private scale.

I got weighed at FMCA rally with full water tanks and got the exact weight of each axel and each side.
I doubt if my weight changes more than a couple hundred pounds or so per tire based on what I have in my coach at ant given time. I see no reason to weigh again. Am I looking at this wrong?
