Girard Awning - Fully Retracted?
As far as I know I've never had any issues with my awnings. In fact, we rarely use them. In another post I discussed the center, sliding, support bar but I don't think that's involved here... but I could be wrong.
How far should the awnings retract? My front awning retracts until there is about 2" of fabric still showing (when I climb up a ladder and view it from the top). There is some movement possible to the long, end piece (with Girard on it and the lights... the main end box). When the front one is retracted it ends up appearing just about vertical (the end piece... if I drew a line straight up the side of the rig the end piece seems to be straight up and down by that reference. It's pulled in a bit from the side, less than an inch or two. There's the side of the coach, that curved, decorative piece (part of the coach) and then the Girard Awning). I would think this is right, although pulling it in two more inches would bring the end flush to the box and would seem to eliminate movement while traveling.
The rear awning is a bit different, possible because of an issue caused by my difficulties with the center support bar (the one on the knuckles, the length of the awning). At the moment I use a ladder to make sure it retracts properly but it's very possible it was fully retracted with bar misaligned. At any rate, on the rear awning only about an inch of fabric shows. That means the end cap is at a slight angle, the top tilts toward the center of the coach.
Is there an adjustment for any of this? What should it look like (when retracted)? Is there a Girard Manual to cover this?
Thanks for any guidance and pushes in the right direction.

They are adjustable, I just don't know how to do it.
You should not see that gap from the roof. Mine has that issue, and I've noticed that if I don't manually hit the stop button once they are retracted, the motor turns on by itself (or never actually shuts off) trying to pull it in all the way and then turns off after a minute of trying (I'm assuming there is an over heat thermistor switch shutting it down). After cool down, it turns on again attempting to bring it in.
I'm taking mine in to fix.

The awning should retract in until the awning is even with the end cap. If it's hanging out past the end cap, which is common and due to fabric stretch, when it shuts off, then it needs to be adjusted. There are a couple of adjustment screws, one to stop the motor during retraction, and one to stop the motor during extension.
Run the awning out a foot, adjust the screw 1/4 turn, retract and note how much difference there s from the original position, then you'll know about how much to adjust to get it to come in so it's even with the end caps.
Same thing with extending the awning. If the motor runs out and stops so the fabric is loose, then adjust it so it stops while the fabric is still tight.

Thank you all.
Thank you Buddy110 for the manual.
