Hee's my guess...Your vehicle can sense Mag North, just like a compass, but Mag North is about worthless when maps are in True North. As a pilot, you know your rig displays True North, 'cause pilots are the only people in the world who care about Mag North, and navigators are the only people in the world who know Grid North. GPS systems use location to know Mag Var, to convert sensed Mag Hdg to True. In the old days, you had to enter a Zone into your vehicle heading system to make this conversion, and there were 8 or so Zones in the US. That Zone has been replaced with GPS Present Position.
