GPS lost its mind, temporarily

While driving from Elkhart south last week, we took HWY 31. A pleasant drive, but the GPS lost us twice, each time for about 20-30 minutes. It provided a few laughs, as we watched the GPS screen show us driving through corn fields and across nonexistent bridges. We have to update the maps!

Those section of 31 are brand new. They were building those sections of highway when we came home from Entegra in June. They may not even show up on the new maps yet. Many of the updates are still a year behind, some not.

We were in South Dakota a couple of years ago and our GPS kept telling us to turn left at every dirt county road for about 4 miles... INTO A LAKE !

Yep, you do need to keep them updated.

My Garmin (new in May), insisted we turn south iff of I 80, because we were overweight for the interstate. The semi's blowing by me were fine. Did it for 320 miles.

Have you watched your GPS while on a ferry boat? It's quite humorous! \ken

Last week we were trying to get to a campground on the service road next to the intersection of two interstate highways. The Garmin got into an infinite loop, repeatedly taking us around all four leaves of the cloverleaf, and totally losing sight of the objective.

Our GPS is called Karen. Sometimes I think she has a drinking problem.

Karen and Samantha , frequent the same bars.

Samantha, RM7720 , on virtual dash board mode had my max speed, on route, at 110MPH!!!

Sorry Sam, the old Cat won't turn up the 4500 RPM required to, get to that speed.

I was down at Wineman's Anthem today and he had one of these tablet holders on his dash to run Google Maps as a backup to the GPS. Nice tablet holder and a perfect route check with Google Maps. http://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Univers...+tablet+holder

I will be ordering one for my Galaxy Tab. Thanks for the idea George.

My GPS is evil. It took us on highway TN 135 in TN. We were leaving Cummins Falls, TN (after a wonderful day) heading up to Cave City, KY. TN 135 is a small, tiny, tight snake of a rod; kind of reminded me of the "Tail of the Dragon". I know know what it would be like if I drove my rig on that road instead of my tiny turbo go-cart.

Now, I use a paper map as well as another GPS to keep my evil GPS in line.

If you are ever in TN, don't drive on TN 135.

Two things to add to the pre trip check list :
Up-date GPS & Review the GPS route against a paper map !
DO NOT ASK HOW I CAME TO THIS CONCLUSION .

My GPS told me to take a left exit to get to Newark Airport and the sign in front of me said take a right exit. Stupid me I followed the GPS.
