Grand Cherokee Summit TOAD sensors

I just got all the towing equipment installed on our 2014 grand Cherokee summit. When we disconnect it from the rv and leave the Base plate on the front of it. The sensors that tell you when you are close to something go off at slow speeds or when backing up. I assume it is sensing the Base Plate on the front.
Has anyone had this problem and found a way do bypass the sensors or do you just remove the plate every time?

I don't see how a baseplate would affect any sensors because it is mounted low. Plus, it's a major project to remove. Are you referring to the actual baseplate or maybe a crossbar that I've seen on some Roadmaster setups? If that's the issue I'd think about using a Blue Ox baseplate, which has no crossbar.

I've not had the problem, but I have heard about it from others. Was cautioned about it when we bought our Cherokee TrailHawk, in fact. The BlueOx baseplate has large removable anchor points for the towbar connection -- but even those will interfere. Will need to unlatch-twist-remove those in order to avoid the sensor conflict. All I know ... Hope you get satisfaction on the issue. \ken

I guess I miss identified the part. It is the cross bar. I would not normally have it on, but in the case of a quick overnight stop and run to dinner I most likely would not have removed it.

If it is a Roadmaster hitch assemble, I have heard they do cause interference with the sensors. A good point for others looking at new tow setups on vehicles that have front sensors. In "most" cases the Blue Ox is below the sensors and does not cause a problem.

Yea ... that would be a real inconvenience. I wonder what would happen if you were to put a switch on the power to the sensor? \ken

On our 2014 Summit the front sensors are right behind the bar and do set off an alarm. You can turn off the sensors with a button on the dash marked "P off". It is the left of 4 buttons and it will light when the sensors are off. These are the front parking assist sensors.

Thanks, We will give that a try. I knew it turned off the back sensors but did not know it turned off the front.
