Grease or Oil Bath?
Checking the hubs on my 2015 Aspire this morning and find I can't determine an oil level on either of the front hubs....the Stemco clear plastic disc is not clearly marked as FULL and ADD although I think I can vaguely make it out if I squint hard enough....what I do see appears to be grease coating the window on the inside. My question now is are these grease or oil bath bearings on the front solid axle of a 2015 Aspire 44 b?

I do not ever remember seeing a see through cover that retained grease. Would not be any sense in having a see through for grease. Grease doesn't flow or settle to the bottom, or at least it shouldn't unless the grease has completely broken down. Hope this helps. Safe Travels

I agree! The tag hubs are what I am used to seeing, clear enough to see oil even without a flashlight. The fronts however show no oil even with a flashlight but do look uniformally green like wheel bearing grease. I will shoot some temps after travel tommorow but I've checked by hand in the past and not noticed the bearings hot. In addition, I've had the wheels off the fronts twice this last year for Tyron Bands install and again for new Tires and both times was told all was good to go. I hate to assume it's grease but it sure looks like it!

These are oil bath (SAE 80W-90 Gear Lube). Since you can’t see the oil fill line, fill so that the oil is about 1/4” - 3/8” in the plastic face you are good. DO NOT TRY TO PRY OUT THE RED PASTIC PLUG ON THE FACE OF THE HUB TO FILL. The fill is a hex head fastener around the circumference of the hub.

Thanks!
Think I will order up some new Stemco clear covers and gaskets before pulling the threaded plug to see what comes out...

I would recommend a call to Spartan before doing anything. I have seen several people on this form discussing this same issue, sorry I do not remember what was discussed as it did not pertain to my coach. I have oil bath bearings on my front suspension.

While at Spartan for the "Academy", they discovered my hubs were filled with grease instead of oil. They ended up removing the grease and replacing with oil, which they fixed under warranty for my 2017.

Thanks for the replies! Hmm.... looks like the best I can do for now is to take some temps with my IR Thermo Gun and make sure both sides are running cool untill I'm back in the garage at home.... I'm learning new stuff everyday about this coach! I don't have any problem with the bearings being greased but I have what definitely looks to be green wheel bearing grease thru the obscured window and I would have thought ?Spartan? Would have used the red stuff in 2015.. AHH! what a slippery slope !

My 2015 Aspire came from the factory with grease in the hubs. When I had it at the Spartan shop for maintenance, they cleaned and replaced with oil, stating that the axle manufacturer sometimes built them incorrectly.

I had the same issue, from the factory they were filled with grease. While we were at Spartan school they found the issue, swapped them to oil baths at no charge.
