Grey Tank level reading changing with no water addition
My grey tank has been reading about 7% after I empty it for a while. Yesterday I emptied the grey tank and it showed 20% when empty. Just now I emptied it again and it showed 11%. Then a little while later it was up to about 20% (with no water being added and valve open) and then I closed the valve and washed my hands and its down to about 7%.
Anyone experienced this sort of variability before?
thanks

I know how frustrating a problem like this can be. I had a similar problem, but with the black tank. Apparently something was stuck on the inside of the tank in front of the sensor. After several flushings, and now more frequent flushings, the problem hasn’t reappeared. I also infrequently use Happy Camper, although there isn’t common agreement on the usefulness of tank additives.
It sounds like something is interfering with the sensor getting a solid reading. Has your gray tank been “off” since day one or is this new?

Agreeing with Bill I would try the easy thing first. A bottle of Pine Sol and half a small bottle of Dawn. Let it sit overnight before a long drive the following day with the tank partially filled
Also check that the sensors are attached to the side of the tank. Mine came loose and I reattached them with contact cement.

Bill, Chuck
its been showing 7-11% for a while, so this recent variability is what is new.
I am going on a trip on Saturday so I will try the Pin Sol and Calgon bath beads, which I think is similar to the dawn idea.
thanks
Van

Calgon works great, but the Dawn is to break up grease if that is the problem. Heck, try both, it can't hurt.

After many years of using Happy Campers I am a fan. In eight years using this product I've never had an issue with my holding tanks or sensors.

Chuck, where are the sensors attached?
I haven't found mine yet.
I have similar problems with the gray sensor, but more so. Currently, mine reads pretty good from maybe 25% to full, when the tank is empty it reads all over, most often 100.
Oddly, our previous motorhome, also with seelevel sensors, had gray tank reading wierdness too. That one would "stick" around 70%.
Starting to think it's our soap. but WTH, we use dawn and ivory!

If you can find it. Calgon liquid seems to work just a bit better than the beads for some reason..
We have a vacuum flush toilet system ... so no PineSol or Calgon beads... PineSol raises hell with the pump bellows seals and the beads are hard on the bellows and the duckbills (they do not dissolve fast enough, so jamb up the works)

Try just filling 25% full of just water before the next trip so it will rinse the soap scum off the sensors. Adding more soap is not going to change it much, it just needs lots of rinsing.

Mine is a Classic with tank visable from the wet bay. The sensors that came off on mine was the water tank, but still cause bogus readings.
